Why does it seem crafting skills are set very high?

I have been working some crafting skills over the past few months (Bowyer/Carp/BS) and it seems like the skill gains are extremely slow, even slower than OSI. I have gone through 10's of thousands of iron ingots in blacksmithing alone to only get to 73 and at this rate, I just don't get it.

I have gone well over 30k+ boards making Heavy's as bowyer to get to 90, and 75-90 was in dungeon, which is a huge pain in the ass to get boards to that character but it does seem a tad better in there but not much.

I have tried using the Brit crafting area and that is a huge waste of time, since thieves have no timer on items stolen, they just play 2 accounts, guard whack their newbie thief and then easily loot whatever they took on a blue standing besides their character.

SEems crafting gains are set next to impossible to gain, much higher than normal it feels.

Smelting/Recycling return seems extremely low as well, almost not even worth the time invested to do so.

Has it been set this way on purpose to discourage people getting GM?

Eat something, and you're probably making the wrong things. At 73, make short spears. You shouldn't be wasting 10's of thousands of ingots to get to 73. I just trained a couple BOD collector smiths. It took 18k ingots for the last one, and that was macroed in my house.

As for the smelting, what time investment? Add it to your macro.

I have been making short spears in this area, I have followed all the guides. Here recently Ive been sitting in a town smith shop and Ive gone from 73.2-74.4 now in about 2500 ingots

So, I wonder when you did it last time, because Ive heard people say that and Ive used more than 15k to get to through the 60's

Well I've been doing this for the past month, not sure how you sat in your house with 50% less skill gains and did it faster than me with less resources, seems very off. Especially considering I cant see a way to macro this with razor without getting involved every few minutes to recycle + restock, doesnt let me use shit from secure containers.

Have you retargeted your restock container? As for stopping to recycle, why? Make item, smelt item, loop

How can you put smelting into a macro? Don't you have to target the newly-created item manually every time you smelt? I guess you could 'target by type' for example a short spear, does that work? Never tried it.

yes. the only item i've had trouble with is katanas. for some reason, smelting macro target on a katana doesn't work, though i think it sees katanas in other folks bags or hands.

Buy hiding to 50, get orc mask, eat, drink from the britain fountains, macro smithy in orc dungeon hidden with no more than about 500-1000 ingots, recall back out and in to restock, gm in about 4 hours from mid 70's.......... just did this last week.

And make sure you have some mining so your smelting gives you descent returns!

Yeah, like Beer.Jedi said. Just record yourself smelting a short spear. Then convert it to item type.

Yeah, do this for the fastest and cheapest gains. But, make sure you stay attended.

Finally got Internet at my new place, and would like to know where this orc dungeon is located. You also sat to drink from the brit fountains, I am not sure what that means.

Can someone explain where this orc dungeon is and how I can get there.

Thanks

It should be in any rune library's dungeon book; "orc dungeon". There's an anvil next to the brute on the bottom level. I wouldn't, but if you plan on walking--I think its south of Yew(google it).
And I think he was refering to the water trough next to the bank.

Eating and drinking affect skill gain. In a huge way. Also work it in a dungeon. Orc cave is the best with a Orc mask and even hidden. = ) shouldn't take u more than a day.

(yes i'm quoting myself)

I confirmed this when working using a mining macro and again on a seperate occassion using a tailoring macro.

It was the mining macro that cleared it up. I was using a gargoyle pickaxe (may have been a sturdy pickaxe) but my mining macro is set to just use pickaxes. i was standing near a house and trying to run it when i kept getting a message "you don't have access to that"
I was completely dumbfounded thinking "how can i not access my own bag" when i realized the picks didn't match and Razor was looking outside my bags for a matching item.

I've seen the same thing at the brit crafting when trying to cut up Robes or smelt Katanas... why? cause Robes are commonly worn and a lot of folks weild katanas. For some reason, Razor was targeting items held or worn by other players, and possibly even in their bags (not sure on that - only speculation)

oh - when i hti a weird point i wasn't gaining - getting killed works too. i kid you not.

Working as intended.
Eat, drink, and crafting skills are much, much harder to raise than others for various reasons.

Eat & Drink? So just eating isn't good enough, characters have to specifically drink as well? I don't recall ever needing to drink and dont think I have drank anything on any character.

Obviously the skills are much harder but it seems pretty lopsided when I am told a guy can GM it with a few hours with a few thousand ingots and I have been been doing it for a few weeks with 10's of thousands inside a town BS shop. Guess Ill go look for this dungeon and give it a shot.
