I think it's plenty fair.

The premier weapons are almost all metal weapons. They include the 2-handed weapons with special hits (axes, war hammers, spears). And all of the good one-handed weapons - katana, kryss, war fork, broadword - which provide the best DPS, are poison-able, and allow potion drinking while equipped.

The usable wooden weapons are clubs, q-staffs, and bows. Clubs are not at all impressive relative to a katana or kryss. Qstaffs are on par with a katana/kryss/war fork but they are 2-handed so you have the disadvantage of not being able to drink pots while equipped. There's a reason you don't see too many of them around. Bows are amazing for PvM only, but they have always been in a league of their own.

I have a 120 LJer and trust me, the nice woods are not easily farmed. It's not like mining where you can have a runebook full of valorite veins. You just chop wood and hope to get lucky. But the percentages are low. Search the threads for some of the nicer woods. Bloodwood can sell between 200-300gp per log. That's way, way higher than any ingot. And it serves as an indication of how tedious those woods are to farm up.

I think if wooden runics owned the lands of Sosaria, this might be a concern. But they don't. You never see any wooden runics in PvP ever. You'll see some in PvM but it's not overwhelming. The most common wooden weapon is a regular old exceptional slayer bow. Metal weapons are what prevail.

This is not to say that the BOD system couldn't use an adjustment (this thread kind of got derailed). But I don't think it has anything to do with a comparison to wooden runics.

You can make a lot more money just crafting wise with wood. Oak and up with how often you make a magical weapon depending on what your making you can make 150+ per item. Meanwhile Blacksmiths don't have that luxury unless they use charges of a hammer.

I have used at least 1.5k of each of heartwood, bloodwood, and frostwood to craft bows. Out of that I got 11 Exc/Power bows and 10 Exc/Vanq bows. Only 2 of them are noteworthy, which includes an Exc/Vanq/+20 and an Exc/Indestructable/Vanq/+5. If durability means little to you, then only one of them is great.

You must be extremely lucky to craft a perfect bow or near-perfect bow, but the runic hammers always create high durability weapons with a decent amount of tactics bonus. I actually prefer to have bows with a high archery bonus so that I hit more often, and as with crafting them, you rarely get a good Exc/Vanq or Exc/Power bow that has a high archery bonus. I prefer to use non-exceptional Vanq and Power bows that have a high archery bonus, and you have a better chance of getting those in treasure chests. When I was actively doing MiBs, I managed to collect quite a few of these bows.

Most people don't use bows in PvP, but they will use runic weapons made from runic hammers that can be faction blessed.

The one craft-able wooden weapon that may be used in PvP is the quarterstaff, but the warhammer is the main weapon that is seen in PvP. The wooden runic weapons are not much of a part of PvP, and if they are, I doubt that they're seen often. Maybe some pirates use them on their boats, and maybe a few people carry them along with a warhammer.

I view all of those Exc/Vanq bows to be not much better, if not worse, than my high archery bonus Vanq bows.

I don't keep many iron BoDs, but I don't throw them in the trash or on the floor either. I simply refuse to accept the order.

Got to agree with Tydeus, you have to get really lucky to get a bow worth keeping. Mostly it's just a waste of wood.

As for BODs, smith is a little harder to fix than tailoring. Tailor is an easy fix to keep people going. Just occasionally retire a color or two and replace with new ones.

Well one thing is for sure make some things a bit more useful... powder of fortification piles up because of the lack of amount you can actually use on items. Keeping your favorite suit alive until you lose it for good (looted). There are things that could be added to the rewards keeping the old as well. Lesser charged hammers, newer crafting materials (runes, legendary ingredients, etc.), or if used some of the ideas people have been can be useful.

As far as bows worth keeping you guys are throwing away every bow/carp weapon that isn't great? You're sitting there next to NPC's who can buy the ones you don't like for 150gp up and that adds up very quickly. On a run of 500 or 1000 logs/boards you could be making bank not making great items...

I clearly remember in the start of this shard people exploiting bow craft selling to make bank. Well it's back if you'd pay attention.

I do vendor the lousy bows. And yeah, some of the bloodwood bows can sell for 250gp. A lot of them only vendor for 8gp. Even at 250gp, it's a big loss compared to the value of the wood.

Strange I sit there with just low end woods make 150-450 per magic wep which is usually about 5 out of 10. If it's bows I will walk my happy butt over to the bowyer and get paid more. Quarter staff will also produce more. I make more on low end than selling/waiting for high end ones.

Yeah PoF is fucked up and needs looked at. I'm sure someone has suggested it in the past...some items you can hit three times while others you can't even fortify once which doesn't make a lick of sense tbh.

I'm sorry I had anything negative to say about wasting high end wood on bowcrafting. I think I just hit the jackpot on the RNG.

Seriously, I didn't realize that this was even possible with frostwood.
