Unfair skill cap

20 in any skill... isn't very much.

Well maybe alchemy... but thats like what? 2 health points extra healed?

What would you do with those extra 20 skill points out of curiosity?

I would add it to the already free 20 points I have from having the stealth skill to make it a total of 40 points. From there 40 points can be very useful in a number of ways.

WOW just add it to the wiki or something so all these people who would have never have fucking read it anyway can stop the tears.

And you're ok with that? That it should be "veteran knowledge" and not known by everyone? Just one of those things where as if you don't know then you don't know? smh
Anyone who had bothered to look into how PSs work should have figured this out. it does not provide a huge advantage, and like malk said its mostly used on stealth chars since they already have extra 20, so people use it to make 8 skill builds, like my Provo stealth archer.

This information has never been a secret stop acting like certain players have been hiding this.

THIS IS, HAS BEEN, AND ALWAYS WILL BE PUBLIC KNOWLEDGE....

Stop your fuckin whining over it... just read about the game you say you love to play, and learn its ins and outs... this thread is fucking rediculous

I disagree that this link suggest that this was possible. What I got from the link was that you can raise your skill cap to 720 if you have one of the listed trade skills. Not that you can keep your 720 skill cap if you twink by falsifying your desire for a trade skill then dropping it after reaching 120. And if it's public knowledge then why do half the people not know about it and why was the phrase "veteran knowledge used?

You mean veteran players know how to maximise their character's effectiveness better than someone who just started playing? Well no shit. It's not even some ancient Chinese secret, it's quite obvious.

My point is that the knowledge is out there, but yes, as with anything in UO, it takes experience to get the most out of it. It's fair to say that this is veteran knowledge, however that does not make it a bug/exploit or anything related to that.

I know for a fact that the method to do this with powerscrolls is mentioned throughout the forums, so a search can bring up how. Knowing that it is out there is not something that you learn day one on UO, but UO is like that. You do not learn everything in a day, week, or even several months. I seriously doubt that there is any one person that knows everything about UO Forever -- it keeps the game interesting.

I agree with OP.

The sole reason your skillcap can even be raised to 720 is to make use of crafting/taming power scrolls and give crafters and tamers something more to do in the game. To raise your skillcap to 720 and then use those extra points in pvp related skills is cheating the system. Yes I know everyone can do it. Yes I realize maybe it's common knowledge, but the fact is that you are doing something that is not intended to be done. I'm sure the only reason it exists is because there's really no way to code in any kind of enforcement as to what those extra 20 points are being used for.

It's just like those people who used tactics and anatomy in their "5x" duels in the pits to gain an advantage over those who were playing fairly. It was common knowledge among regular duelers, and everyone had the ability to set a template that included those skill, but surely it was an oversight because allowing those skills was not a true 5x duel. And once it was brought to staffs attention (after many years and tournaments....) they fixed it.

It would seem that the problem with this issue is either that the staff recognize it and think it trivial and therefore don't care (which they should), or they haven't figured out a good way to enforce what people do with their skill points after they've reached the 720 cap. I prefer to think it's the latter.

Is this true? I thought I couldn't go over 700 even if I dropped a 120 skill.

If so, that's good for me cuz I can still get 7x on my dexxer and keep 20 magery for recalls.

I wouldn't call it unfair, since everyone can do it. And it does come at a price cuz it means you have to dedicate time and resources to raising a skill you will never use to 115.

How is this secret veteran knowledge?

To be fair, most of the people who do this probably didn't understand how it worked at first either.. everyone's newbie days are full of learning the mechanics and tricks of the trade.

Utilizing the +20 skill points is an advantage of having learned the game...

gm wrestling eval taming lore 90 magery 70 resist alchemy med or janky templates similar are what this tactic is used for. Not really a big deal though tbh since it is only 20 skill points and anyone can do it.

all those ppl that abused this insulting the rightful ppl is disgusting. this is clearly a bug, just because it was there for years doesnt make it right. everyones cap should just be 720 as it would be best solution to this problem.

and when u see powerscrolls and how they increase ur skill's cap, u think that u have to have that skill as 105-110 etc, i dont think anyone thinks "oh i use these provoking powerscrolls, so i can now get my poisoning up from 80 to 100!".

just because you knew this bug for years, this bug seems normal to you maybe. try to be objective.

i wouldnt say this is veteran knowladge, this is "Secret bug abuse that you learn only if you are told". there is NO way that u can know u get 20 more skills by abusing powerscrolls weirdly,For a long time i tought if i drop that skill that i used powerscroll on, i was going to lose extra cap, as that would be the logical thing.

Now you know. If you want to take the (minimal) advantage of a 720 skill cap, you know what you gotta do.

Or you could just cry on the forums some more.
