Tracking skill :(

If you get enough practice with an ethy mount, running, hiding, and dodging. Most players wont get ya. My stealth lockpicker/tmap/fisher gets away all the time lol

Please please please stop whining that stealth is not powerful enough because of "0 tracking". It is fine if you fail to get away it is either your skill or the situation you put yourself in. 0 tracking exists because of the awesome stealth mechanics in the game. Unless you want a stealth nerf do not whine about tracking.

This has been discussed many times please do a search and you will read all the reasons stealth is the way it is.

People need to quit complaining about stealth. Zero Tracking shouldn't work against someone who only has GM Hiding, much less against someone with GM Hiding and Stealth.

Invalid argument. Tracking does not reveal you. Please reread previous posts. Tracking and Stealth are fine.

Yeah it's a good balance IMO.

Tracking at 0 vs insta-stealth, unlimited stealth steps, stealth after invis spell, don't I hide when you bring up cursor for steal, etc etc

It's frustrating but fair

If it were me i would compromise this. as follows.

- While a player is hidden and stationary (using only hiding) 0 tracking would have no chance at revealing the location of a person who is hidden. GM tracking would have the greatest chance at revealing the location of a hidden stationary player.

- While a hidden player that is moving (Using stealth) 0 tracking would work as is now currently, perhaps shorten the range a little if anything. GM tracking would have a 100% chance with a wider range of revealing the location of a moving hidden player.

Now to balance it out a little more during stealth at no time can a stealther walk thru other players / NPC's instead they will just be stopped as if they were walking into a wall, and in doing so remove a stealther from being outright revealed in such a manner.

What this does is it forces the the player to constructively time / consider there stealth movements , enhancing the "Hide and seek" aspect of the game. which makes it more Gamie / fun and adds at least a little reason for someone to invest in Tracking .

However thats that . I personally would love to see a complete overhaul of tracking .. that would make it a passive skill that is always on and instead of using the gump to track something you use the gump to turn on or off a filter of what your interested in tracking .
Whatever you have selected / filtered if a tracking target is near by, a trail of foot steps will show on the ground leading and tracing to the tracking target fading in opacity of 100% opacity on the position of the tracking target to 0% opacity of the last foot step. The length of this trail is determined by the skill in tracking .

This. Stealth is very powerful in UOF.. so I'm okay taking tracking being useful at 0. I used to be in the other camp but after awhile of playing, it feels balanced. SO Many people don't use Tracking anyway.

Yeah.. no...

One of my favorite characters is my griefing thief, who has stealth. I also have a character with GM tracking. I feel that with 0 points, you should get 0 chance at successfully using tracking. Insta-stealth with no cooldowns or step counts -- I don't care because frankly, they still gots to walk away while I am on a mount. Reveal and detect hidden both have fairly large areas of effect, which means that even guessing, I can usually hit a stealther. There is no reasoning that I can think of that we should be able to use tracking without any effort (ie skill points) involved in it... period.

To me, this is just one of those newbie features that was added into UOF so that blues could feel comfortable and not have to "deal" with thieves.

I think the buffed stealth mechanics are offset by buffed tracking.

I think the current stealth mechanics make for the most fun and wouldn't want them changed in exchange for a tracking nerf.

Oh I love the current stealth mechanics and wouldn't want them to change because although I am completely used to hitting my stealth key every 10 steps, I don't enjoy it.

My point is that I don't believe that a buffed tracking, like we have now, balances out the stealth mechanics. I think the tracking over powers the stealth and also goes against the purpose of having skill points in UO in the first place.

IMHO, what should be changed (if anything) would be to have a cooldown on the stealing skill from the point a steal attempt is made not from when the skill was initiated. This would prevent insta hides -- I mean really, this is a loop hole in the system right now anyways. Do this and then give tracking its power back.
