Tracking skill :(

Hey, then there's two of us!

So yeah. Require skill to use tracking. Done and balanced.

Well gm tracking gets you 100% success and a huge range. 0 is pretty small range and only 50%(?) success.

Hiding
Stealth
Magery
Med
Detect
Track
Herding

Pretty fun build tbh

I welcome solutions using items or other mechanics to combat stealth.

A solution involving 0 skill to negate 200 points is an UNIMAGINATIVE & LAZY appeasement.

We can do much better to honor the sandbox skill ruleset that we all enjoy with UO.

Hold yourselves to higher standard of gameplay people.

If it were me i would compromise this. as follows.

- While a player is hidden and stationary (using only hiding) 0 tracking would have no chance at revealing the location of a person who is hidden. GM tracking would have the greatest chance at revealing the location of a hidden stationary player.

- While a hidden player that is moving (Using stealth) 0 tracking would work as is now currently, perhaps shorten the range a little if anything. GM tracking would have a 100% chance with a wider range of revealing the location of a moving hidden player.

Now to balance it out a little more during stealth at no time can a stealther walk thru other players / NPC's instead they will just be stopped as if they were walking into a wall, and in doing so remove a stealther from being outright revealed in such a manner.

What this does is it forces the the player to constructively time / consider there stealth movements , enhancing the "Hide and seek" aspect of the game. which makes it more Gamie / fun and adds at least a little reason for someone to invest in Tracking .

However thats that . I personally would love to see a complete overhaul of tracking .. that would make it a passive skill that is always on and instead of using the gump to track something you use the gump to turn on or off a filter of what your interested in tracking .
Whatever you have selected / filtered if a tracking target is near by, a trail of foot steps will show on the ground leading and tracing to the tracking target fading in opacity of 100% opacity on the position of the tracking target to 0% opacity of the last foot step. The length of this trail is determined by the skill in tracking .
No one liked my idea :( well fine ima go kill a kitten then ...

It's not that we don't like your idea, it's that we don't like your idea. :-D

Really though, complicated changes like you proposed are not needed at all as simple solutions easily resolve the issue.

The problem is that no changes will be made because the staff doesn't see this as an issue.
