The State of UOF (PKs and purple pots)

So you are completely fine with how things are at the moment?

Not at all, a lot can be done to make PVP more interesting. Limiting explo pots to the alchemy skill and making parry block explo pots doesn't make PVP more interesting tho, it simply makes it VERY hard to die.

IF the person has Parrying, sure. Parrying. That's the skill to end all skills? The OP mechanic? With stun, scribe, uoforever builds... Parrying is the skill that makes one invulnerable, and only because it blocks pots?

Wow.

Fair comment, how would you change things to balance things out?

It's funny. I have proposed a suggestion that keeps expl potions in the game, in towns, at the cost of investing skill points and providing a countering mechanic. Those that disagree with that would just rather they splash, which would prevent them from being used in town at all.

No sense does that make.

I call this Diversion and the Lesser of two Evils.

Two tactics commonly used to counter a valid and strong argument.

In this hypothetical world (where pots require an empty hand to use), which character is more effective:

1. Parry dexer with a DP weapon who can't throw pots.

2. 1h dexer with a DP weapon throwing pots.

I just don't see how the shield makes the build OP when that char is removing throwing pots from his skill set.

Wow.

Killing others without alchemy will become very difficult with your suggestions in place, it would severely weaken a lot of the templates i run.

I have a hard time seeing what the actual problem we are addressing is. If it's "absolutely having to use explo pots to be successful in pvp is a problem" then i don't understand why other items do not fall under this same scrutiny.

In this scenario considering both dexers are skilled, nobody will come remotely close to dying.

That didn't really answer the question I asked, your comment was about making PVP more interesting, perhaps elaborate a little further on this comment?

My issue, and others seem to agree, is that throwing pots is mandatory in all UOF PvP. If a player doesn't want to throw pots, they don't stand a chance in PvP, therefore wont participate.

That's not the way this should be.

So why do other mandatory items not full under the same scrutiny?

I wasn't clear: both of those dexers are facing a stun alchy mage.

Dexer 1 will not have the means to kill any competent player 1v1, but with pots doing no damage the alchy/stun mage has no means of killing the dexer.

Dexer 2 is business as usual i would suppose (got my ass whooped in the 7x tourney by this template last night)

PVP is already pretty interesting, tbh. As for the rest: I've been shaking my head constantly for the last 5 minutes reading this thread. There is so much misinformation, bad judgement and obvious butthurt it's insane.

What other mandatory PvP items require 0 skill points to use and deal significant damage regularly during a fight?

If Player 1 can't kill the mage, how is Parrying suddenly overpowered? It sounds like it's working.

You say this stuff, but do you realize that there's a large percentage of the UOF population that all feels that change is needed? Whether you agree with the way expl pots function here or not, you can't dispute that there are a lot of players that would like some sort of change, and get flamed when they share that opinion.

do these people PVP? no. Would they PVP if there were no explosion potions? Maybe 10 minutes a week. So where is the point? The people who are actively PVPing understand that explosion potions are a necessity. Where do these people encounter explo pots, anyways? Out farming? Do they really think that they would not get PKed if there were no purple pots? For me this whole thing stinks like it's following some weird trammy agenda.

Dude, that's ridiculous. You can't pretend to guess how much they'd participate if everything didn't rely on expl pots.

But, I love the mentality: "we PvP, we know how things work, you don't, therefore your requests are irrelevant." Yeah, that's gonna make things better.

It is kind of like some random dude telling NASA what's up because he might be interested in becoming an astronaut if they make the color of the space suits pink.

I know most of these people, have met 'em ingame, have talked to them for the last 3 years.... I think that I know how much they really "like" PVP. And you know, that's what it's all about. Some of us _love_ PVP. That's why it's all we do. And every few months people like you create Threads like this one here pretending to know the "cure" for a system does not need to be cured of anything.

And on a sidenote: This Shard's PVP is going to focus / focuses on large scale battles anyways these days. So your little sarcastic remark at the end of your post makes no sense and has no validity.

Or, a lot of the people who are making suggestions, and who don't PvP here, used to PvP constantly elsewhere.

So, it's like a former NASA scientist telling current NASA scientists that there's an issue with their craft, and using schematics and statistics to support their opinion. Feel free to disregard that opinion, but they might be right.

If you love PvP in general, this suggestion would do nothing to deter you from playing, and you'd keep playing if it were implemented.

Sounds like perfect reasoning to pursue change.
