Rousey vs Holm

I watched the fight and it was a pretty good kick at just the right time.

I don't really care for either one too much but these types of wins always rub me wrong. Saw the same thing on Pacquio vs Marquez where the whole fight was one sided then a single hit wins it.

Makes you wonder who really is the better fighter as opposed to who just won a fight.

Ronda was punch drunk even going into the 2nd round. As awesome as Holly was in striking she also did a hell of a job in the clinch. She stuffed most of Ronda's hip throws and keeping her hips low and her arm out of danger by tucking it to her side instead of wrapping around Ronda's back like most opponents do out of instinct.

As for Ronda thinking she's a boxer I don't believe that was really her strategy. Holly controlled the distance very well and Ronda did get the positions she has always gotten against every other opponent and finished them. The biggest difference is Holly defended herself properly. In hindsight what Ronda really should have tried to work on to get her head cleared after that first round was a pure wrestler double or single leg takedown. Instead she tried to close distance by charging her way into a headlock/hip toss and opened her up to getting blasted repeatedly in the face. She doesn't have the proper head movement to pull that off. Going to blatant take down threat and even several feints with a low double or single leg it could have helped throw off Holly's striking and even lowered her hands to prevent the takedown. Even with that Holly is very good at controlling the distance and looked too quick for Ronda to close the distance.

Most boxers seem to forget how to work their angles and control the distance when they cross over to MMA. They think they have such a huge striking advantage that they don't use their footwork to defend against takedowns.

Well Ronda was pretty sloppy the whole first round. Holm was tagging her a lot and that first round would've gone to Holm for sure. So, sure, it may have been a single kick that finally knocked Ronda down, but, still, Holm was showing she was the dominant fighter in the fight. I think Ronda was being too aggressive and emotional (as the no touching of the gloves showed) and she just got a little careless.
Pretty good kick at the right time? She was dominating the entire fight. She easily won the first round and in the second round she punched Ronda dead in the face 4 times and elbowed he in the face. She also was keeping her at bay with oblique kicks. Before she went down it was pretty obvious Ronda was gassed already, she had never had a fight that long before (not that it was long). Not gonna lie, thought Ronda was going to win before the fight, but there was no lucky shot, the whole fight was Holms from start to finish.
lol did you see her face? She was punch drunk walking in just eating lefts. Wtf was her game plan, 'stand in front of this boxer'?

This was one of the few women's mma fights I've seen that was fun to watch, I think it's good for the sport. Also think rousey will rematch and be not-******** and use her judo to get a submission win.

Probably bought into her coaches bullshit about being a great boxer and wanted to get a knockout.
Holm was definitely the better in the fight - but without that fateful kick, it still could have been anyone's match. I mean Rousey never thought a kick was coming her way as she was trying to stand back up, which is why it hit her so damn hard. Good kick from Holm at just the right time - even Holm looked super surprised after the ref pulled her off Rousey.

Rousey wasn't doing a whole lot of thinking at all by that time with how wobbly she was. It was pretty much just a matter of time at that point. When she about fell on her face lunging as Holly completely juked her you knew she was only a few more shots from going down. Yes in any fight there is a puncher's chance or getting a haymaker knockout after getting worked the whole match. Same for a grappler of her calibre, she is always one scramble away from an armbar submission. This was a completely one sided fight from the opening bell though. The way you worded your original post made it seem like this was a close fight or that Ronda was winning until that kick landed.

Agreed, very poorly worded - typed from a phone.

Ronda just bought too much stock in her own hype. She thought of Holly as just another notch on the old belt and underestimated what kind of fighter she was. If Ronda hadn't been that way, she would've tried to get Holm to the ground more and work that way instead of just trading shots with her standing up.

if nothing else, I think it's a great success for the Women's MMA as a whole. Firstly, for the fact that a record setting crowd, comprised of scores of new fans and hardcore MMA fans alike, were on pins and needles waiting for the outcome of a women's MMA fight. Who would have thought that Women's MMA would transcend Men's MMA (arguably in many ways but in viewership at least). Also for because means there is legitimate competition in the weight class again, now that it doesn't have an unbeatable champion rendering all of the other fights arbitrary and pointless.

I think most will agree with what I'm going to say

The female side of MMA is not fully developed as far as skilled fighters, there's only a handful that are really up there
Ronda is one of them
Ronda won most of her fights by getting people to the ground and using her whole body to torque and arm bar
She has a heavy upper body for a female fighter, she usually out muscles her opponents
She got a few knockouts, but not against amazing strikers
Point being is that she hasn't had to face many people on her level, and she's a one trick pony

Ronda did not try to out box Holly Holm
Ronda tried to get the take down but couldn't get it
I think she got it at one point but didn't keep her there
Holly Holm actually got a take down on Ronda

When they were standing, Holly made the defending champ look like an amateur
Holly was throwing jabs while Ronda was trying to throw hooks
Jabs are faster then hooks
Holly has more reach
Holly kept Ronda away with those Jon Jones "oblique kicks"
Holly out maneuvered her
She kept light on her feet and kept her distance

Holly did not get a "lucky" K.O. kick
Just like Ronda does not get "lucky" arm bars

Holly Holm is the better fighter
She's got kicks like Mirko Crocop
She is a 19 time female boxing world champ
Ronda wasn't and isn't going to get on her level standing up
Ronda is an amazing Judo expert, but relies on getting an armbar
Holly did her homework and had a few takedowns to watch out for
She had to know how to get away from an armbar, and she did
Holly Holm was underestimated from the start.

Forgot to mention
I don't know what Ronda was doing with the WWE style hype at the stare down
And Holly became champ on her 3rd fight in the UFC
And Dana White's stupid ass is all butt hurt about Ronda losing. I think he was expecting to put Holm in there to get beat by Ronda to continue promoting and making money off her.

Ronda is just a flat out over inflated egotistical *****. I'm glad she lost. Have you watched the TUF season 18 rousey and tate? She is always an emotional *****, lol.
