Q) Why do I still play UO? A) PKs

O.k. here's something else to consider:

Last night rolling through Brit solo on my SL red resulted in a gank of epic proportions.

I was brutalized by like 6 blues and barely made it past the stables. This was during off peak hr's. But did I get what came to me? Pretty much, yes. Ain't gonna cry about it. Sometimes you overstep your bounds, as I did.

Wish more reds would see things the same way. Sometimes bad things happen. Boo fucking hoo.

Telling someone to put themselves in your shoes doesn't do a goddamn thing for anybody.

No statloss though. No red is getting upset over this.

BUT imagine if u were running around solo, a blue zergling spots u, and even though u are fighting 1v1 he calls in 6 more to stun zerg. You then die and lose 30% (permanently) of your skills (as suggested) for trying to fight an enemy who is openly looking for it.

In this instance is perma statloss deserved? FUCK NO! Or say instant death to a scum bag tamer like pvpeter?

Im faced with the above situation constantly and I get a managable 48 hours for it, which is still total crap.

So if you wanna play a red and know there is a risk of doing so, do so in the no cut zones and quit yer bitching. Perma stat or no perma stat, still applicable.

You barely leave the docks as it is so I don't see any changes having a serious impact on your gameplay. True story.

There's always a risk to being red, besides the 48 hour stat you're attackable by all. It's worse than perma grey.... The kids complaining about reds having it easy are the same type of blues that if accidently flagged grey will invis or run for 2 minutes straight because of the harsh consequences. ..

I think you and I both know just how moot of a point that is.

I'm just glad there's a healthy enough pop of both reds and blues to even be having this discussion I guess. That in and of itself is a sign that things aren't totally out of balance.

But in the end, staff is still acknowledging a potential problem. I mean having so many chars and accts it's bound to happen. That doesn't necessarily mean staff intervention. But it's an issue. Like Karl said, give it a month or two let's see if it straightens itself out.

FYI. Because you guys keep going here........... my son and his activities dictate my RL and I'm very proud to say so!!

There is nothing wrong with having a functional personal life irl. Mentally healthy people are able to strike a balance between real life and gaming, @besttherewas could learn a lot from you Lex :)

Bearing in mind that page 18 is usually well beyond the point at which further suggestions/ideas receive constructive comments/criticism I am going to try anyway.

My goal is to give the blues who do fight back a meaningful victory should they win. As I stated at the start, if there aren't pk's, I wouldn't stick around, so my other goal is to come up with a solution that doesn't drive the pk's off the shard. Here is what I have come up with as a baseline change that could I think be a reasonable change:

  • Halve the stat loss duration (as i understand it, it is a sliding scale based on counts capped at 48 hours currently, so it would become a sliding scale capped at 24 hours) with some minimum say 2 hours for someone with only enough counts to be red
  • keep the no-cut zones as is
  • Statloss is triggered by turning in the head to the head collector
  • if the death is caused by an opposing faction member the corpse is no-cut
  • statloss effects all red chars on the account (if pk's are able to just cycle through alts, then statloss is meaningless, especially after halving the duration)
  • The red or the player with their head may open negotiations to buy the head back prior to it being turned in
    • there would be no cap to the price negotiation
    • if possible from a code standpoint any char on the account of the red could pay
    • if the negotiation yields an agreement there is no statloss
    • if the head is turned in, there is no buyout option and statloss begins

Someone, I believe Gluttony, already stated that a lot of reds cannot afford the current buyout anyway so for them the only change is that the statloss would be shorter but on all their reds on that account. For those who the buyout is even in its current stat nothing to bat an eye at it will no doubt be a shock to the senses actually being put in statloss. Still tho, given that the duration is halved and they actually had to be killed and lose their head, I don't think it is too harsh.

Now if you are still reading, be ye a Red pk with thousands of kills or provo tamer who runs at the sight of red text in people titles "just in case", I have one final request: even though this is on page 18, can we try to provide constructive criticism of my idea vs what normally would pass for comments 350+ on a thread?

Cap the negtiation, but yeah. That's a pretty reasonable suggestion!

Trick would be finding a cap that would be well-suited for this kind of idea.

There is no reason to cap it if there isn't a buyout when the negotiation fails, if the bearer of the head wants more than the owner is willing to pay then no agreement is made and statloss results. there is currently a cap b/c there is currently a buyout option.

Remove any kind of pet bonding, this will fix annoying pets stat loss as well. Also make it like if you're playerkiller and you die, your character is gone forever. If you complain against my ideas, you're trammy, ok? Hardcore mode.

I've tried here, I have two reds... but I'm not near as good as I use to be. My mage skills are really rusty... and I'm not up on Sallos. Trust me I wish it wasn't the case!! That said, it's one of the reasons I'd like to see the Short and Long. I'd be one of the reds keeping my short below the cap, so I didn't get stated every time I dusted her off.

How can u keep them below 5???? I NEVER kill macroers yet in one hour of pking i kill some 10 people at least. Should i pk 30 mins and keep my char logged 40 fucking hours to drop the counts???
Gtfo with this shit. I'd rather risk true statloss

I guess the difference is i'm so used to having chars taken out for 2 days and losing loot (anywhere from 5k to 80k worth of shit + another 35k if i chose to buy my head back) it is kind of the norm for me.

The way some of these trams carry on, it's like they've been raped.

This is UO, death is part of the game. So plug up that vagina with a maxi pad, and get on with the game.

This is all bullshit. It's a dungeon there will be pks there. This is uo. You're solo and there's more than one pk? Join a guild. This is uo. You're at the champ spawn and your guild gets over run by another guild? Change your tactics/get more players. This is uo.

Seems like people are mad they can't play the prime spots without having to put in the most effort/players.

Maybe the pvm people should think about putting resist/wrestling into their builds and having a PvP char ready to bring in for back up. Some 5x dueling practice wouldn't hurt either.

If you're not willing to at least get some basic pvp skills then you're missing out on what has been a major factor to why this game is still around.

Umm, i believe to actually "plug" ones vagina, one needs a tampon, not a pad.
