Hello,
Ill start off by saying that the team that runs this shard does an outstanding job. I have played UO since its launch as well as many other classic style free shard's and this one is top of my list. So much so I have stopped playing all other free shards. Good job guys!
Now that the brown nosing is outa the way ill get on with my idea
So from what I have read so far the rare system that is in place is -
-Rares are random
-Rares spawn in random location's over land, in towns and inside dungeons
-Rares can be stolen with 0 stealing skill
-Some rares can just be picked up
-Rares are daily some weekly, and some monthly
-Rares drop from mobs in the new Asylum Dungeon
If I missed anything please let me know.
Now correct me if I am wrong as I could find no info on this... But to find a rare you basically have to try and steal/pickup every item you come across in order to find out if its a rare or not. To me this is very unappealing and very little reward for the amount of time one would have to put in due to the amount of area and insane amount of items you would have to try to pickup/steal plus stealing skill cooldown. I am guessing only a very small percentage of players go for this. Its more mind numbing then running the lands in search of idocs clicking on every house sign you see but that's just my opinion
So what if you were to get a passive rare item detection (for stealable rares) when you were in the general vicinity of a rare item? Like a message "You sense a item of rare origins in the area" Or "You detect a item of great value nearby". Just a message that a rare item is nearby... It could be 2 or 3 screens away in any direction but you would know it would be worth your time to thoroughly inspect the area checking every item.
Once a rare has been picked up or stolen it becomes non detectable with the passive skill to avoid getting hints from rare items in peoples houses and such.
Now of course you would have to GM a few skills for this wonderful hint and thus a true rare hunter character build would be born.
Requirements for these passive hints
-GM Item ID
-GM detect hidden
-GM Tracking
And maybe for newer players 50-60 in each of the above mentioned skills would have a chance of detecting daily's or the lesser of the rare items.
Also... possibly remove the stealing skill cooldown when attempting to steal static objects/rares that are not in someone's backpack or in a container and of course not possible to gain stealing this way.
So that's my idea. Like it? Hate it? Let me know. But please keep it civil
Other idea's
tamable dog that when trained up can sniff out the general vicinity of rare items.
A npc that spawns in a random city you can pay for hints or tips on current rare item locations that are available to find at that time. Remember back when you could find npc's to bribe for information on the location of Vanquishing weapons and such when UO first came out??
I know its a bit long but thanks for taking the time to read if you did.
