More PK's then not?

So I have been on this server about a week, give or take. I was in the original beta for UO way back when, and played for about a year after Tram/fel split was released. I hated the carebear factor, even though I was never a pk. I enjoyed the risk/reward and that's why i gravitated to this server when I decided to come back with a few old friends of mine.
I ran around and marked some runes to some of my old earlier leveling haunts (despise, shame, etc) and decided to start trying to earn some gold. Wow, there are pk's everywhere! And not just a solo roamer, 3 man gang bangs who run up on your, kill you, and rush to the next guy. Am I missing something?
On average in a 3 hour gaming session, I see 1 other skittish blue person who recalls as soon as he sees me, or runs off screen, and 2 3 man groups, a duo group, and occasionally a couple solo pk'ers. That's a ratio of 5 to 1 (counting myself) of pkers over blues in an average 2-3 hour dungeon delving session. Is this normal, or am I unlucky?

There are plenty of blues *and* reds here. Some spots are frequented more than others by reds (Deceit 5, Fire titans, despise titans, MotM areas, etc). I had a similar experience when I first began here. After refining my hunting runebooks a few times, I began seeing more blues and less reds. It just takes some time and some scouting. The time slot you're playing in also makes a difference. During the EU times, you will deal with POWER reds combing dungeons and blue ]$[ griefers who will attempt to wall you in with spawn and kill your pets. During US times, you deal with EQMS reds and a few smaller groups of 3-4.

In other words, whatever time zone you play you are going to get a pretty violent enema without the benefits.

There is no doubt that there is a huge pk problem on this server. I also see about 5 times more blues than pks. Shane noticed that problem and wanted to increase pk punishment, to balance the game due the fact that many players left the game for that reason. You can say atm its a pk server. Unfortunatly the changes everybody waited for were never activated. To be hobest I dont know what happend. I will probably leave the server as well cause i can only pvm because of my ping, what is actaully no longer possible. Unfortunatly I donated 250 $... yesterday and I have to admit that I regret it now a bit cause I realised the last 2 days that pvm id not anylonger possible.

Learn spots to hunt, places you can get in quick, and back out quick. Sometimes I go days without seeing a red. Sometimes I get lit up. It what I love about the game.

What are you talking about? You say you only pvm because of your ping...but you say it's a pk server? So you realized within 2 days you can't pvm because of your ping yet you donated $250?
I pvm and pvp plenty. In fact, my prime hunting spot I only deal with POWER and I really enjoy fighting those guys. Regardless of what people say, POWER has some classy pvp guys.

Yeah, PKs are the worst. No one can get any PvMing done with them around.

Oh wait, here's a screenshot of a harrower being killed UNINTERRUPTED during USTZ primetime when the major PK guilds are active.

Eh, I wasn't trying to turn this into a flame war. I actually enjoy some risk/reward. I just prefer a good mix of murderers to friendlies. Unfortunately the mix I was seeing wasn't good.

No worries, atm the situation looks like this it can change quickly. I am still hoping on the changes in the system, to balance it better. I will take a break and see how it looks like in some weeks. You should give that shard a chance.

After reading your other thread and your replies here it just doesn't seem that you have what it takes to get back on your feet. You seem to want hassle free farming then your welcome to go find a Trammel shard but people here enjoy the risk vs reward factor and when you get attacked they enjoy the flight or fight adrenaline rush.

Even though you spent money on donating, you could easily put that towards making a new character and following the tips you've already been provided on how to be successful at farming but it seems as if you don't want to adapt and instead just enjoy dying or complaining about dying.

If your Ping is really that bad you can look into some VPN services such as WTfast or lower ping? I could be wrong on those two, I don't use a VPN but I know they help some euro players. Go practice in the pits on how to defend yourself, not everyone is a leet PK half the time if you probably stay your ground and actually heal you more then likely wouldn't be run over.

Seriously ?? Come on now. U ***** about server but just donated...... Gtfo.. IV been here since start up.. I'm rich, I have several homes... Gold in bank,stashed in my homes.. Im never without and I ONLY PVM. ...

And why wouldn't everyone play a PK on a shard that encourages PK zergs by altering the recall mechanics to disallow anyone with a murder count to escape after a kill for 2 mins?

2 mins is hella when you consider that it only takes about 10 seconds for reinforcments to arrive. Not to mention that you don't even need to be in a guild to use the irc channel and often have several players come to your aid if it means they can stat a solo PK for 48 hours.

It sounds like it would be a great system except for the fact that these same PK zergs we have today not only stat the reds, but kill any blues they see and are often found harrassing new players in the newbie dungeon, easily negating any PvMers templates that have hiding in them with the use of tracking.

@wreckognize -- since you hate EQMS so much, why dont you try to form your own guild to defeat these newbs in purple?

Oh, thats right -- you tried and you were only able to get 2 people to join....

I don't hate EQMS at all in fact. We're not in any competition whatsoever in the game, mostly because you turned down my offer to duel. You can have all the sloppy second IDOC loot and powerscrolls you want, I'm not after any of that. And even if I did I would never tarnish my reputation by putting the EQMS tag above my head and looking like a complete sissy.

Your legacy here is nothing more than having the game changed to suit your playstyle, because you can't simply adapt to a UO:R server that doesn't offer some form of imbalance for you to exploit. If you think it makes you look like a top player, you are quite mistaken. Enjoy being used like the tool you are by this population while it lasts, and don't forget to wipe that white stuff off your chin!

I'm not fan of eqms, but I don't seem to have any trouble avoiding them or any other PK when I'm on my PvM toons.

Do I have to recall a lot? Yes. Do I have to completely abandon doing PvM in certain spots some nights? Yes. Is it annoying that eqms multiplies like Gremlins after midnight? Yes it really is. But to say PvM is not possible is a gross exagerration.
