This seems perfectly legit to me.
As Wrexx said...it's UO it doesn't F'n hold your hand. If you're imagination can only take you as far as putting the pet behind four walls, I really don't think that is worth ~2m.
I have no horse in this race, I just love how the thread starts with the tamer whining and trappers flaming and quickly has changed to the trappers whining.
UO is always a fair/just game that is just "hard" until you don't get your way.

Ya, I love this thread, whining on both sides makes me happy, and seems like the mechanics are just right.
Tamer lost a 2.25-3 mil stone, and all his exp, seems like he had plenty of risk.
Griefer had no risk but could have gotten a 2 mil egg or a ransom, chose do try for the egg and missed out.
I don't see any mechanics that need changing.

#3 If people are gonna quit over meta's and you think that's a problem maybe you should go to suggestion thread and ask them to remove meta's so people don't quit

My main is a Provo tamer anyway so I don't go out looking for fights...but if I did I sure as shit wouldn't be doing it with a meta since skills are capped at 100 and are generally a ***** to retrain.

Well you end up no shard to play on because half of you that talk shit and pet trap also don't donate nothing to the server and chasing off players kills the server. got my pets trapped once, learned the lesson - but i think trappers should also not behave like douchebags in that situation. no need to insult players or make the situation more fucked than it already is. ask the ransom take the fucking gold and dont behave like a dickhead. i've stayed cool, talked, but the 3 PKs behaved like fucking 13 year old children, wheres the point in that?
My tamer is a provo tamer. No resist, eval, wrestling. I wasn't pvping. Was just wandering around the UO world aimlessly smoking pot. lol. Exploring w/ my pet.
And, hey, isn't bonded pets/metas and pet summoning balls, the very definition of trammel? I don't see a difference between these things and item insurance.
Plus, I'd never heard of a pet summoning bal until recently, and even than, didn't really know what it was, and I've played UO on/off for like 17 yrs. Granted, never played past AoS.
