Constructive Feedback (New Butler)

Hello,
As a player who has been looking forward to using the butler, I think I have a good ideas on the gap between my expectations and the current form of new butler on test at the moment.

I want to fully disclose I suck at coding, and am not sure how hard/complex it would be to implement some of the changes I am suggesting.

To get one part out of the way, I like the ability to upgrade the butler, and think that should remain, just in a different way than currently implemented.

Currently the butler starts with an available stocking of 100 weapons, 500 armor pieces, and 50k of "miscellaneous" , this increases per level, in a linear fashion, with a non linear cost (diminishing returns on gold spent/capacity) I think this is a good idea to sink some gold out of the economy.

The first issue I have with a large grouped stock capacity is that it doesn't allow for even refilling of all your regs/pots, etc, let me give you an example. Currently I stock my vendor from a nearby secure with 60k of each reg, 40K+ bandages/ potions/ 20k+ bottles, I can restock the Butler really quickly with one click of the mouse. With the new Butler, when I target the restock secure and lets say I have a level 2 butler (can hold 100k misc), it will try and restock 60k of each reg, well over capacity, unless i manually separate all the units i wish to stock or manually change the restock amounts in the GUI, this seems counter productive to the ideas of quickly stocking the vendor. Another unforeseen consequence is if I accidentally add say 60K nightshade to my butler, there is currently no way to "destock" him, without pulling out regs and dumping them back into the secure over and over.

I think the system with the current butler is better suited to the job, where each individual resource is limited (at 5k) With this in place if I am restocking from a secure of 60k each reg, it is much faster, as it brings that reagent count up to capacity, then goes to the next item, etc. I would like to see the upgrade feature, allow the butler to increase the amount of items individually, as opposed to a massive-group stock.

As for weapons and armor stocking/removing, I think a better way to go about this is to allow (at base) 5 or10 of each weapon or armor iteration, as an example, the base butler could hold 5 or 10 vanq katanas, and 5 or10 vanq accurate katanas, and 5 or 10 ruin katanas, so on an so fourth. this would make profile configurations much easier.

I suggest that the upgrade levels would increase the butler stock capacity of individual items be 5 for each iteration of weapon/armor and 5k of each individual reg/pot/aid, etc.

Want to know what the community/staff think of this, if its possible for staff to implement etc. This, when they announced the butler, was how I envisioned it working, curious as to what everyone thinks the flaws/downsides are to this method.

If you wanted to restock just regs, wouldn't you target a container with just regs? Instead of targeting a container with literally everything.

Also, I dont think you would restock your butler with weapons/armour very often by selecting a container and restocking it in a bulk way. You would be putting individual items on it.

Maybe I am misunderstanding your suggestion, I apologize if I am. I think the process of restocking needs to be looked at instead of creating "what-ifs". Everyone's situation and process will be different.

On test with my level 7 butler (350,000 capacity) I restocked from a chest of 60k each reg (what I use with current butler). Then my butler had 350k/350k misc filled with just regs, and I couldn't put potions/bandages on etc.

Whereas if the capacity was limited on an individual level like the current butler, it wouldn't have been a problem.

I see my the new butler as a massive organizer/secure holder for magic weapons, as otherwise I only see the value for those who can afford lots of crafted runics

Assuming you took out the large pool capacity and moved to on an individual basis, for me yes.

Basically the old butler to me was perfect, just let me pay to upgrade capacity, and add in weapons, maybe even do crafted weapons can have 20-30 slots instead of 5 for those who pvp with large bankrolls and want runic restocks

having a capacity limit would be amazing. maybe level one keeps the standard 5000 limit, and it could gradually go up as you level the butler.
Regardless, I'm super pumped to test this guy out!

I do hope the upgrade is optional, i prefer the simplicity of my current butler. I hopped on the test server multiple times to check it out and it didn't appeal to me. i'm not a huge fan of the new layout, heavy gold sink for a minimal upgrade, and you have to pay for upgrades on top of the 25k dono you already spent.

The real problem is the hypothesis that people want a butler to replace the entirety of a house.

Core features should be:

- Ability to create and name multiple profiles easily.
- Ability to add stock to the butler easily (drag and drop works just fine for this)
- Simple taxonomy, process, and UI. (current UI is great)

That's it. Get rid of the ability to add 300 non-exceptional, iron daggers, with no durability. Nobody wants to restock these, especially not people who can afford a butler.

Adding the ability to add ANY item creates this world where you build profiles that can only be replicated once or twice with the stock you have. Especially when you start considering templates like an achy dexxer who just wants invul armor, and doesn't care if it's bone, chain, etc.

IMO, make it so that in addition to what can be added today, you add:
- Infinite Profiles (that you can name)
- Bone armor (by type)
- Runics
- Slayer Weps

Keep the current UI for selecting items and then add a default screen that looks like this:

I don't have a butler and I'm fairly new to the shard, but it seems the Butler as it pertains to weapons, armor and misc items for storage really does take a tremendous toll on the housing value/market as a whole on this shard. Storage is probably the most important facet to having large houses. If a butler now takes the place of house storage in a HUGE way, what the point of multiple houses??? It really destroys facets of the game people love like idocing which of course helps to add to pvp, guild events, thieving, and generally keeps players active. Has the impact on this facet of the UO gaming experience most love really been thought on? Again, I'm fairly new to this shard in a general sense of not knowing all the proprietary features of this particular shard very well.

That is a valid point. The unfortunate reality is that many of the best plots have been squatted on by players who abuse VPNs or refresh houses for owners that haven't logged on in years. This being a free shard means that players have no reason not to keep a house refreshed. As more players join and fewer houses fall then it just worsens over time. Many of us veterans can point out desirable plots that are owned by players with more than their fair share of housing (refreshing for a friend I'm sure) or sit unused by players that just log on once a month to refresh.

Some players balk at the idea of owner only refreshes. Apparently, logging on for 12 seconds a month is too much to ask from a player on a free shard...

Anywho. I point this out because there are many of us legit players that don't abuse VPNs and don't refresh houses for players that will never return. We constantly get shafted by the large number of players that abuse the housing system. For once, we hoped that we might be tossed a bone with the new butler system. It would appear not.

I believe its been mentioned before and I think I saw Shane even comment on it in discord recently about possibly tying refreshing of houses to the owners IP only. That would go a long way to solving the issue you mention. If implemented, I redirect to my point earlier.
