Any idea when this will be adjusted? Small ships are still far over powered.
I agree, the balance needs to be tweaked, particularly with the cool down on the larger ships' cannons. But, even if they set ship speed to be the same for all ships, there would still be "no catching a smaller ship"
I am not sure if the current system is this way, but the ship speed should be linked to health. As the ship gets damaged, it gets slower. A small ship at full health should have a speed advantage; however, that speed advantage is gone once it take s a few shots.
I understand that Galleons take a ton of time and resources to build. They should "rule the seas". But with that in mind, if you take away any potential advantage for smaller ships, then you limit the amount of players that will even attempt Naval Combat. If you need a 10M GP Galleon to even have a chance, then most players will say its not worth the effort. With a speed advantage, you allow the smaller ships a chance to get away, instead of forcing every ship on the seas to stand and fight when they are outgunned and over matched by the few players on the shard that can afford a Galleon.
The dragon part is just aestheticsI think the incentive needs to be in going out to sea, period. Whirlpools, mibs, etc. If it's profitable then people will risk their safety just to reap the benefits. Meanwhile dedicated pirating crews who are willing to put the time and effort into obtaining a galleon should have an advantage.
Like Madd Dogg said it's not that hard to escape. Scan the horizons gives you enough time to react and act accordingly. Maybe even escape depending on how close the nearest guard zone is and what type of ship you're in.
In a crew vs. crew fight, assuming all other stats are equal, small ships have the advantage of being able to overwhelm a galleon. Even if changes were made I can't ever see a point when a galleon is going to win vs. 2 or 3 smaller ships. you can just fit more of them on the screen. And if they're faster you can quickly block in a larger ship. So there's already that inherent benefit.
edit: also is there any reason that the dragon-prowed ships are better than their non-dragon counterparts? I'd like to be able to do without that stupid looking figurehead without having to sacrifice stats.
The dragon part is just aesthetics
I was wondering about this.. Dragon ships have more durability but when it comes to straight damage, do they really do more? Has anyone confirmed?Nope, our crew has got a level 10 of every type of ship, dragon ships are stronger then there non dragon counterparts last time I checked.
That's not necessarily true. And you shouldn't have to.Nice topic of debate but anyone on a galleon can solve this problem by having smalls ready to be deployed for a fight.
That's not necessarily true. And you shouldn't have to.
Its not true because if you're getting approached you might as well recall and kiss your upgrades goodbye. How is that not true? It's your best option until they fix it.
The problem here isn't about people not knowing how to maneuver or survive on the water.lol you can also use scan the horizons to track nearby ships to buy yourself some time, im just trying to help y'all out here.

The problem is putting a bunch of time and effort into something that should be badass but instead it falls short of that.
They are in the works of fixing it, which is awesome. I also think they have been tweaking them earlier, since I had a run in with a galleon the other day and it absolutely destroyed me.
Things are looking up, boys.
Just adding my two cents as well.I wasn't disagreeing with anyone here just trying to help provide solutions while they work on galleons.
