Boat PvP - Galleons too weak?

I agree, the balance needs to be tweaked, particularly with the cool down on the larger ships' cannons. But, even if they set ship speed to be the same for all ships, there would still be "no catching a smaller ship"

I am not sure if the current system is this way, but the ship speed should be linked to health. As the ship gets damaged, it gets slower. A small ship at full health should have a speed advantage; however, that speed advantage is gone once it take s a few shots.

I understand that Galleons take a ton of time and resources to build. They should "rule the seas". But with that in mind, if you take away any potential advantage for smaller ships, then you limit the amount of players that will even attempt Naval Combat. If you need a 10M GP Galleon to even have a chance, then most players will say its not worth the effort. With a speed advantage, you allow the smaller ships a chance to get away, instead of forcing every ship on the seas to stand and fight when they are outgunned and over matched by the few players on the shard that can afford a Galleon.

I think the incentive needs to be in going out to sea, period. Whirlpools, mibs, etc. If it's profitable then people will risk their safety just to reap the benefits. Meanwhile dedicated pirating crews who are willing to put the time and effort into obtaining a galleon should have an advantage.

Like Madd Dogg said it's not that hard to escape. Scan the horizons gives you enough time to react and act accordingly. Maybe even escape depending on how close the nearest guard zone is and what type of ship you're in.

In a crew vs. crew fight, assuming all other stats are equal, small ships have the advantage of being able to overwhelm a galleon. Even if changes were made I can't ever see a point when a galleon is going to win vs. 2 or 3 smaller ships. you can just fit more of them on the screen. And if they're faster you can quickly block in a larger ship. So there's already that inherent benefit.

edit: also is there any reason that the dragon-prowed ships are better than their non-dragon counterparts? I'd like to be able to do without that stupid looking figurehead without having to sacrifice stats.

The dragon part is just aesthetics

Nope, our crew has got a level 10 of every type of ship, dragon ships are stronger then there non dragon counterparts last time I checked.
I was wondering about this.. Dragon ships have more durability but when it comes to straight damage, do they really do more? Has anyone confirmed?

Don't do naval battles and may never will but the time it takes to reload a cannon should be the same across the board imo. The difference between the ships is firepower vs maneuverability. The larger ships are the 1 hitter quitter ships and can take some hits, the small ships are faster harder to hit and wear you down.

From what it sounds like the smaller ships hit hard and faster which I think puts the speed in the wrong area of emphasis in firepower vs maneuverability.

Just my 2 cents.

Agree same cool down just big ships more dmg and smaller boats more speed but not crazy speed like it is now or better yet increase large boats speeds a bit as they are very slow

Nice topic of debate but anyone on a galleon can solve this problem by having smalls ready to be deployed for a fight.

How is that not true? It's your best option until they fix it.
Its not true because if you're getting approached you might as well recall and kiss your upgrades goodbye.

For example:

Deploying smaller ships into the water, loading cannons and making officers alone, will take far too much time. You will be smoked before you can even scrambled to drop the smaller boat in the water far enough away from your galleon for it to stick. Not to mention, the manual embarking you'll have to do by double clicking the tiller man (if you're already on a friendly ship, its he only way to move around to another boat). There are some macros and set ups out there that people have. They are the kitties titties, but I'd like to see them pull off your idea and it not absolutely fail.

So its not the best option. The best option is to name you're galleon something dangerous and sexy and lock it down in a cool manner in the home you plan on entering into the deco contest.

Take a large dragon out and merk people that way, as everyone else has been doing.

lol you can also use scan the horizons to track nearby ships to buy yourself some time, im just trying to help y'all out here.

The problem here isn't about people not knowing how to maneuver or survive on the water.

The problem is putting a bunch of time and effort into something that should be badass but instead it falls short of that.

They are in the works of fixing it, which is awesome. I also think they have been tweaking them earlier, since I had a run in with a galleon the other day and it absolutely destroyed me.

Things are looking up, boys.

Aye, Galleons can do a lot of damage but nobody seems to be pirating on them, except us because its hilarious.

I wasn't disagreeing with anyone here just trying to help provide solutions while they work on galleons.
