Veteran player returning, someone fill me in on things

A few of you know who I am, most of you do not. Doesnt matter too much to me either way.

I was an old, veteran player on DFI before it essentially collapsed, which, in my opinion anyways, really paved the way for this server to take off.

I was in the first, initial wave of players to populate this server. I do believe I built one of the first houses on this server, placed near Minoc. I wish I had a screenshots with dates and everything to show you all but it has since long fell down.

I played here on and off for a while, on my last, big push of playing the game, some other, older, veteran players of the game and longtime friends of mine were in the early stages of creating a very organized and structured thief guild and organized crime syndicate. The "trammelized" docks system, along with our very major burnout of the game, led us all to quit. I cannot recall the dates and times exactly but this was either a year or two ago.

I've played a lot of games since that time, and I was never really satisfied with any of them for very long. I realized after a while I had been looking for a "UO Like" game, and wasnt happy with any of them. It dawned on me that if I was looking for a UO Like game, I may as well just return to UO.

So I'm probably coming back, to some extent anyways. My question is, what's new? I see a "kingdoms" advertisement on the front page, what's going on with that? What else has been added and updated? How are populations these days? Is housing still very tight as it was back in ye olden days?

Fill me in on things.

Docks has now been moved to brit bank, reds can run freely through town with no fear of being guard whacked(cause thats just like UO:R era isnt it~_~) still plenty of small to medium house spots around, may have to buy a plot from someone if you want something really big though. It's kinda like trammel for reds, if that appeals to you.

Yes I have noticed the pocket of Trammel on top of the bank. I think that was a terrible move that takes a massive move against thieves and the spirit of UO, and while I'm not going to let it deter me from playing here, it completely rules out any possibility of my guild coming back.

If you like that, wait till you find out stat loss is temporary here. Truly a reds paradise. A trammel for reds.

I still log on occasionally, though I lost my small house with all my crap in it even though it was nowhere near IDOC... I logged in weekly to keep it up, my other house I do the same with still there and like new, that one disappeared in a week... someone got a lot of empty kegs, a shitton of ingots and scales, some wood, but not much... and all of my fishing scrolls and nets. I really lost complete interest and quit logging in when the crafters guild and britain bank became instadeath zones for a thief.

My thief has made a total of 12K in gold, but I had a lot of fun robbing macroers when play was down. That main change took away 90% of my play time because there's just not a whole lot going on elsewhere unless you're a part of a megaguild.

Sitting in the crafters guild and watching macroers come up to sell their crap wares and stealing their BOD was great fun though.

Now the macroers that arent' playing the game anyway can sit there and macro "HELP GUARDS" all day long and it doesn't matter if you steal 100% perfect you still get whacked. I tried it out yesterday for the first time in forever and actually got whacked after being successfully hidden and stealth walking a few steps due to server lag.

There are seriously better troughs to stick your snout into my man, not as though I am implying that you are a farm animal, but just using a saying which has been going around for 100's if not 1000's of years. You can still steal from the crafting area, but why?

Was one of the best moves we've done honestly, factually.

It's a good marketing move and gives the trammies something to play for (a safe place to AFK to show off their $5m outfits and blaze sunglasses), but it cheapens the game. Banking and trading should never be 100% safe.

I cant even begin to fathom what would even compel you to believe that. I'm going to draw from experience I've had from past servers, go on a limb here, and assume you made this change at the request of a vocal minority, that vocal minority likely being a small group, or an individual, of massive, large sum, big donators. Them, or banksitters.

This demographic being the type of person to buy a large amount of donation goods (here being coins), and, while at the bank, trading and converting it to other goods and keeping it or selling it, or just outright selling it. They get everything they want and need from doing this, dont venture out of town much other than to their house and friends houses, and, for all intents and purposes, dont play the game. They dont partake in any of the "formula" that this game is based on, that being risk vs reward.

I would imagine what would have compelled them to demand this change would be the possibility of them being the big vendor house/mall conglomerates I see here. I could see them being drained of reagents while they gate at the bank, and, instead of either negotiating with thieves, taking the easy steps needed to protect themselves from that, or accepting the fact that they are playing a game where they can almost always literally lose anything at any given time if it isnt blessed, getting pissy, stamping their little feet, and crying to the higher ups about it to get it changed. Which ultimately cuts into the "spirit of the game" and undermines what the vast majority of us came here for: the hardcore, Felucia, old school Ultima Online experience.

Im telling you right now, you've really only benefited a small, select group of people, and have undermined an entire facet/playstyle of the game to do it, one that's really been largely disenfranchised everywhere else by the "trammel mindset" they've been running from and the same mentality that drove everyone to a Felucia rulset in the first place: Thieves.

In fact, lets see right now where the community currently stands on this. http://www.uoforum.com/threads/should-the-britain-safe-trading-zone.78073/

top of bank should be safe to afk/trade but not to bank or something like that

100% safe trading and banking is....trammel

I don't think you can have one without the other. How would you propose to make trading safe while not having banking safe? Both involved items of value that move from your person into a safe container (be it bank box or trade window) and vice versa. Call it Trammel if you like, but with today's game assistants that basically allow for AFK stealing macros targeting specific items, it is a nice addition IMHO. Do you remember the Christmas 2014 give away on WBB roof (before it was a safe zone)? That was a nightmare. Half the players that I speak to regularly were not even able to grab package and recall immediately without getting it ganked.

I would agree that the safe zone is a bit wimpy. However the stealing scripts really ruined thieving. If you guys would come up with a way to fix that then you might have a argument. I have proposed a skill delay after snooping for example.

The skill delay would just be an added nerf to the thief since none of the safe zones would be removed anyway. The fix is to remove steam usage completely and we all know that is never going to happen. There really is not a fix for this without adding more changes which does not benefit the class.

pretty sure the steam script steals without snooping

When relics and powerscrolls are sometimes worth upwards into the millions each, having someone trying to buy it from you then script stealing instead would just burn you the fuck out and you would probably rage quit losing millions depending on which relic/Power scroll was insta stolen via script.

As much as I don't like the idea of a "true" safe zone, you cannot just run into it if you are under attack so really I don't see the huge issue with it and usually it will show a new player on the server just how active this shard really is when they see West Brit Bank for the first time upon logging in.

Just my thoughts anyway, and I don't know why @Seelendolch keeps saying Red Trammel, guy probably never PvPs or has a red himself there is still 48 HOURs/2 Days of Statloss if you die on your red.
