im not talking about magery, thats a strawman argument;

look at it this way

should i be allowed a 50% chance to be able to walk 10 full steps in stealth at 0.0 skill then? because that would be equally as fair as this tracking thing (which by the way was claimed as 5 tiles, but is really 15+)

Search stealth. Read. Get informed. I have argued this to many times with people who are new and just want something super easy for their template. It is the way it is for a reason. I'm not going to type out why you are wrong when it already exists in triplicate.

i disagree with most of the arguments that you have thusfar displayed, im not searching 100 posts on stealth to find what your arguments are "in triplicate" form a concise argument, to me it seems that this is purely in favor of the pker; which if that is what the mods want is fine and i will deal with it; it does not seem at all fair but if you just want to whine about people being noobs for trying to maintain a defensive skill, then really, theres nothing i can say to convince you otherwise anyway

you're not going to convince me that walking away while hidden is somehow broken when you can chase me down on a horse with a full screen radius tracking at 0 skill is somehow fair

Because stealth is VASTLY overpowered, right out of the gate. Going invisible and being able to move around is outrageous. Not to mention that on this shard it auto re-checks your skill every 10 steps so you never have to re-activate it. THIS is why tracking can still be used, because stealth is incredibly unrealistic and OP.

You mean the way stealth has always worked? If you want to fix stealth in that way just put a timer on the skill rather than let people use another skill to break it (again with 0,0 skill invested)

Although I agree that a skill be usable with zero real skill is stupid, that is not something that's gonna change because of the stoutness of the stealth skill. You can hide and immediately move. That's pretty damn cool for a stealther, but makes thieves very powerful (stealth assassins too). So even though I don't like it, they give power to everyone by allowing the tracking skill to work somewhat with no points.

This recent change was a huge step forward as it really gives those with the tracking skill to have a big advantage over those that don't, I had GM tracking before the change and I am very happy now that these changes have been made.

And since you suggested it, I'll answer it right now. Stealth will not be changed back to how it is on every other shard. It just won't.

How are thieves powerful in any way?

Stealth makes them more capable of stealing a potion out of my backpack and immediately getting guard whacked?

I have literally never once encountered a thief in a dungeon on this server.

Hiding on this shard is broken as shit, being able to move as soon as you hide is ob, not having to use the stealth skill is op, auto recheck is op....stfu dude....

anyone who thinks hiding or stealth on this server is overpowered clearly have never used them; hiding and stealth are two of the weakest possible skills there are, right up there with begging and camping

the only effectiveness it has is as defensive; how often are you all being killed by "stealth assassins"? serious question cause ive literally never seen it happen

none of the arguments here make any sense, im not following how hiding is overpowered since it functions exactly how it does on every server ive ever been on, stealth on osi has worked the way it does for a long time too and if you think being able to disappear completely is so crazy clearly youre a newbie to uo

the only reason im debating this here is specifically because of how stupidly easy it already is to find a stealther, anyone who needs extra help or thinks it is overpowered must clearly be a newbie

Well, tbh stealth IS very good the way it works on this server.

But then again @Techno Destructo is right in the sense that I've NEVER been attacked by a stealth PK nor did I EVER have something stolen from me in a Dungeon by a stealth thief.

Right now stealing is only good at champ spawn or to rob monsters from skill scrolls.

0 tracking at 33% success rate with current mechanics or. ..

Need tracking to track and;

Need to activate stealth to use,

After a skill delay,

Re activate every 8 ish steps,

Immediately become visible when activating stealing,

And stealing skill use timers doesn't start to recount until a steal is attempted.


Now anyone really want the latter?

Not me. Thieves here are great against low numbers and can even beat great odds if skilled enough. With the later you might survive the occasional 1v1 but forget taking something when a group of people are around because you will be dead before you can even activate hiding.

Please stop arguing that 0 skill negates 180 skill because tracking does not reveal you. Magery or detect hidden reveal you and likely that's 100 points and some resources to do so.
Stealth is great the way it is. With some skill you can escape many situations. Nerf tracking and a nerf much more damaging to stealth will follow.

listen i dont have enough time or crayons to explain to you why you're wrong, ive already dropped the skill because its even more of a huge waste than it was

i was just trying to understand how stealth is so broken when you're on a horse and im WALKING away slowly, there is no comparison and this mechanic seems to only exist to ensure that a stealther gets pk'd 100% of the time (when not "stealth assassinating people all the time like i see happening so often)

but apparently everyone on this thread is constantly getting thieved from and getting pk'd by "stealth assassins" (i literally lol'd when i read that argument)

I have 8 chars 3 have stealth. Stealth is very awesome sorry your no good with it.
