I agree these faction bonus' for pets aren't exactly a good thing, as it has been counterproductive in trying to spruik pvp. Basically bad/frightened players have joined minax with no intent on participating to receive the bonus, or have further jumped ship to the shard's undisputed king of zergs: EQMS.
But, that being said, I don't have much of a problem with zergs, but rather what modern uo assist programs have enabled them to do.
Back when Ultima was played via subscription, we didn't have advanced clients that could automatically closest target our pre-loaded exp/eb/fs with the click of one key stroke, or pre-select targets off screen and again, instantly flood them with 5-10 spells upon appearing on screen. Our simple, but enjoyable client also wouldn't indicate players that are stunned, automate throwing explode pots for us or basically encourage this shit feast we try to pass off as "PVP".
If the goal is trying to get new players to join pvp, how can we make it an enjoyable experience, when the majority of group pvp is target closest spell rails resulting in instant death upon appearing on screen, 1v1's turning into 1v2-10 on almost every occasion, or running the entire map like usain bolt on cocaine.
This in turn has also pretty much made template diversity in group pvp non-existant and to top it off, we have elitist attitudes whereby some players would rather lose a limb irl than actually face death on wizards online.
In an ideal world, this shard would have it's own client that would limit what players can automate/target, but for the time being, large scale pvp will pretty much be target closest mages online on a client that was designed by some geek in his mothers basement so his team of dropkicks would have an advantage over other ultima online players.
Yours truly,
A real ultima online player.
