Some suggestions for post-newbie dungeon

I'm wrapping up the newbie dungeon more or less, ending with:
85 Archery
97 Tactics
84 Anatomy
60 Healing
50 Magery
50 Provo
50 Music
99/90/35
(Following a template someone used for a provo-archer in the PVM section)
Basically just want to get a farming character up and going to fund other ventures.

And around 20k gold.

Given I'm still reaping the newbie dungeon a bit still, just running around at the end killing the lich repeatedly and mummies, I was wondering what courses I should take and/or what I should spend my gold on.

What I've gathered (beyond researching PVP escape macros, carrying only what I can afford, etc) is a popular method is to find lich spawns and move through those. Is this accurate?

Also, gold wise, should I seek out a Runebook pretty quickly? What else?
How much gold do I need to get started on a house?

Thanks guys, it's pretty great to be playing UO again even if I'm still in the newb dungeon.

Yes, I am also interested in the answer to this question. I have an axer who I'd like to PVM with but alone I would have it handed to me from PKs. I'm not sure I want to join a guild just yet, and finding people to play with randomly is a turkey shoot. (PKs in disguise) Is there anywhere you can go to hunt that is relatively safe(er)?

I'd suggest you guys make bards (provo). Archery and magery seem popular for that.

makes it a lot easier to solo mobs

I'd say first off go for a dungeon runebook. That way you can start farming and getting additional skill gains (with the dungeon skill gain bonus).

Items to buy:
A horse (520gp, i hate running slow).
Lute (gm pref, but on a budget, just use a store bought one for like... 15gold).
Dungeon Runebook (5-10k).
Full Spellbook (5-10k).
City Runebook (5-10k).
Any bow (pref GM, just as long as it's cheap).
Arrows from Provisioners shop in any town (2-3gp per).
Buy cloth and scissors from a tailor shop in any City, that way you can make more bandaids.
GM crafted armor (leather pref, but whatever is cheap is better).

I don't want to turn this into one of my 'selling' threads. but my tavern sells most of this
(so do many others, just check the moongates at Britain bank).

aside from that, just buy the occasional recall scrolls to charge up your runebook, and regs whenever you are feelin like leveling magery.

Thanks, that is very helpful info, I'll share it with other newbs like myself. :) Sorry for the double post, my explorer wigged out.

I usually avoid dungeons when I hunt because there is always a chance of some PK running through it looking for someone to kill. I usually hunt various spawns in the open world and it's surprising how fast the money adds up even if you are just killing ettins and ogres.

How do you actually buy from player vendors? i see the player shops all over the place, but can;t figure out how to spend my money there.

Make sure you're not in war mode(hit tab key and make sure your cursor isn't red) and just double click the vendor itself, like the actual person. This opens up a backpack containing items they have to sell. Single click the item you want then click buy, you'll get a gump to confirm your purchase. Then the item will appear and gold will be deducted from your bank account. Doesn't matter if it's in actual gold coin form or in checks.
