Just a PSA about dude who scammed me this evening with some serious donation items.
Shane has made clear scamming for donation items/coins isn't allowed, so he fixed the trade...Unsure if any punishment for the guy will happen but.

His name in IRC is Brymc and in-game hes Omegatamer

Fair warning!!! If he'll scam ole' fb he'll scam any one of you!

He swapped an unhued bear into the window. I should have been more careful, but he was making me prove that I wasn't in fact a scammer...So my guard was down.

Trade was 2 layered brimstone masks Deer/Bone, for his brim pbear.

Ok so Im still not 100% understanding.. the bear, cos of ethy coloring, didnt show proper in trade window and therefore you couldn't tell it wasnt brimstone until you clicked ok?
Not 100% sure if this is what yer talkin about...?
Oh and hey Omegatamer i hope you choke on your ill gotten goods you disreputable scumbag! Do us all a favor and cut that shit out, make this shit right on your own, or leave.

Part of it was me not even thinking about getting scammed, I admit. He swapped the unhued one in when the window came back up, and I agreed. I would've maybe just 'taken' the loss but...thats over 2 mil, thats a big one to swallow. He was already getting a killer deal as it is.

Oh, and not -ill gotten goods-.

The trade was CORRECTLY completed by Shane, against Brymc's will. As donation item scamming is badnewsbears.

I've never been a scammer myself but it's your own fault if you're too dumb to make sure you're not getting scammed. Especially over a 2 mil deal, lool, you would think you would be extra careful. Can't believe Shane stepped in and saved your dumb ass.

It's one thing to scam.

But to scam someone of items people pay for with RL money seems really off the beat and path of what we are trying to accomplish here for a positive community.

Nothing will make someone quit Ultima Online Forever faster than starting out, donating for something with RL money , then getting it scammed the same day... because it has happened.

I wouldn't be dumb enough to get scammed in the first place.

Second, technically speaking, donations are just that. Donations. They are not purchases. It even says it right on the donation page, they are "gifts" to say thank you for donating. So why staff has to get involved because someone lost their thank-you gift, I don't understand.

Third, how do we know this guy didn't actually scam the other guy? What's to prevent people from selling donation items and then claiming they got scammed and getting their donation item back? I'm sure there are some chat logs or something but I imagine Shane must take it on faith at least a little bit that the guy is telling the truth. Would be interested to see the hard evidence that this dude actually got scammed.

lol..you cant be serious. you dont get the fuckin "gifts" unless you donate..period. you can word it any way you like (and im sure its called gifts for an actual reason..maybe income reasons?). at the end of the day your paying for your donation coins.

sometimes "dumb" has nothing to do with it. ive been playing this server from the start i have no idea wtf a an unhued bear looks like in the trade window. why? because ive never bought one (or been interested in one).

Coming directly from Shane from a previous discussion he and I had:

Donation coins are considered goods. You pay for these goods and the delivery of said coins is a transaction, technically not a donation. That just happens to be the term used.

Semantics.

That is besides the point though, as it is policy for staff to intervene in these situations regardless.
