RIFTS: What are they and a guide to the encounter
Above you will see a Rift that has just been opened.
Rifts have been added to UO Forever as an encounter to fight very strong and difficult monsters that require a degree of tactics to defeat.
The Soul Forge is used to create the items needed to open these gates and create the new pet as highlighted in the pictures below.
Both items are located in the "corrupted" menu in the Soul Forge.
They both require crafting skill of 100 Blacksmithing and 90 Magery to create and a combination of the below materials.
An intact dragon's heart
Dragon bone shards
Plasma
They will then create the below items.
A "Breach" is used to open the Rift itself.
A "Forked Bough" is used to create the Ligneous Wight.
Ligneous Wight
The Wight is the unbondable pet gained from collecting plasma and crafting the item to summon this pet.
Once created it will be weak, but can be given plasma (in a total range of about 2000 plasma) to max out its skills and stats. Above is a picture of the max stats of a particular Wight.
Also to note the Wight has the ability of a Mini Quicksilver attack that gives it 200 additional Dex and refresh of stamina for the duration. It also has the ability of on hit DP poison. The mini quicksilver is fed by giving it additional Plasma.
This essentially covers the Wight crafting of the system, so below will highlight the Rift itself and some tactics.
Rifts are spawned on the island of Occlo in the below general region. You are not allowed to open them inside guard zone itself, but can lure mobs there. You are able to guard wack them as well.
If some remember when they were first spawned in Brit some months ago the same still applies to the total number you will see.
The rift center after much murder and mayhem
So as you can see these rifts are no joke in the amount of mobs that pump from the gate. So below are some general statistics of each current monster.
Clockwork minion
These are the weakest of the bunch, but still have the ability to pack a punch. With all exodus based minions they have a shield you need to bring down, which will send a massive damage bolt back onto you. This hits for 50HP to a player. It also switches to the target it sends the bolt to so watch out. Best tactic is to clear shield with magic arrow then pets can wreck them. They also have the ability to stun you on hit.
Clockwork Overseer
Similar tactics as above, but they have much more HP to deal with. When shield is up attacks do 1 damage. It is important to keep the shield down, watch your life, and make sure your not the primary target.
Clockwork Juggernaut
Onto the big boy of the encounter. All the above still apply to him, but his HP pool is massive. Based on the screenshot of the amount of them and the statistics below I am sure you can see why there is a struggle. The difference here is these will also toss packs of more Clockwork Minions onto their target to deal with. In regards to plasma farming it is best to leave them alone. As stated below staggering 33K total HP pool.
With all the above being said, what advice can I provide the reader. Do not let yourself stay close to the gate, place the rift and get to the outskirts. Kill monsters by having a guild member or party member pull them to the group. Be very aware of target switching as that will kill you. Ignore the juggernauts as the time commitment vs reward here does not pan out. Work as a group to collect resources and craft items.
Your goals currently are to make plasma farming your main priority so that you can craft a new book to replace the one you used and then either create/feed a wight. Once success event rewards and drops are defined those will be the additional benefits to the system. As of right now the Wight is what you gain by the Rifts and maxing out that pet.
A strong horse (crosses fingers to be added)
Rifts last about 8ish minutes before they end as a defined success event. Please in doing rifts provide your feedback, thoughts and ideas to the system and how we can improve it as a community. There has been thought behind attaching "a strong horse" to this activity, which is a horse based swamp dragon. That it would spawn on percentage as a success event to the Rifts.
This is all I have for now, tonight rifts will be opened after the Auction, so please go prepared and with the intention to create additional Breach books.
