Returning player after 15 years, I am in my mid 30s...

Hi guys,

First of sorry for TLDR, but I got many things going on in my life and want to get more information before committing serious part of my life to UO like in the old days... This is well thought out post as you will see and I hope you will answer, anything helpful is much appreciated.

I am in my mid 30s, working as an investment banker, have a wife, kids and a quite busy life. Got around 2-3 hours a night and some time on weekends. Since my childhood and teens I still have a urge to play a game like UO, tried some over the last 15 years and gave up on the idea that something close to UO made me feel will arrive. Decided that UOF is the place if I were to play something again.

This is the introduction, here are my question (any response is much appreciated):

1) Should I return to playing? Is UOF is the largest pool of people still playing the UO

2) Do we have endless PVP hours still going on in the UOF server. The best part about my old servers was I was playing long long hours constantly PVPing as a PK with people, is this feeling still somehow possible?

3) If yes to both above, I do not know any people at UOF, is it possible to get in to the community and top group of people or will I struggle as a lone wolf?

4) If yes where should I start. Back in old days I used to scribe and macro for all the gold in the world, through a quick read in the UOF, this will not be possible. What is the best 700 to start it again from zero without knowing anybody?

5) Lets say I made my way and earned a decent living and a skill set, what skillset should by PVP character have?

I am really hoping you guys will put some light on the above, I still miss this without ever playing for 15 years, still chasing that same feeling when I got my first broadband connection 15 years ago. Any answer, I thank in advance.

Cheers,
Thunder

welcome.... once a uo addict, always uo addict.

By far the biggest server and as such, the only UO server worth playing.

2) Do we have endless PVP hours still going on in the UOF server. The best part about my old servers was I was playing long long hours constantly PVPing as a PK with people, is this feeling still somehow possible?

There is more PVP than you can handle here.

3) If yes to both above, I do not know any people at UOF, is it possible to get in to the community and top group of people or will I struggle as a lone wolf?

Plenty of guilds(including mine) recruit new players... its not hard to join a good guild.

4) If yes where should I start. Back in old days I used to scribe and macro for all the gold in the world, through a quick read in the UOF, this will not be possible. What is the best 700 to start it again from zero without knowing anybody?
Check out the guides in the forums on how to make a character or ask in discord.

1) Should you return? This is truly a decision you will have to make for yourself. As far as UOF being the largest pool of people playing I am unable to answer that, but there is a large group of people. West Brit Bank is still plagued with your bank sitting crowd and the dungeons still have reds running through them looking for a kill.

2) Do we have endless hours of PvP? Depends what you consider to be PvP. If you mean reds looking for blues to kill then yes we have those. An active faction community then no we don't. Minax is over populated and the other remaining factions are considered non-existent.

3) You will not struggle as lone wolf. I too started out all by myself and was able to build a good stash of gold by doing all of the events and champs when possible. Also, a lot of people are willing to help and provide assistance and there are plenty of thieves around the banks to help make your pockets a little lighter.

4) I basically made money doing champs and crawling int he dungeons while my Young status was still active. The reds are unable to physically attack you while young and when you die everything remains in your backpack. However players can kill you using summoned creatures.

5) Most likely people are going to recommend a template with alchemy so you can throw purple potions. I run with a run of the mill mage setup and have no issues when pvping in groups and with my legendary running skill that I developed over the years I can pretty much escape when need be.

By far the biggest population for UO free servers. Also on a relatively smaller map, so you see people everywhere.

PvP is better here than any seriously active server.

If your still interested in playing UO, this is the best place to do it.

Many thanks for the kind responses guys!

All sounds good tbh, will give it a go! So where should I start in terms of first 700 characters. Tbh guides that are available in the guides section of the forums are not really clear.

First account I create should be a PvM or a Crafter? Can anyone shed some light on that, any details re what the first 700 should be and how to get there will help immensely

welcome back!

create a provo warrior (archer) that's the easiest way to make money!
skills are so fast that you don't need to macro anything just use them playing

if you need some gold to start just ask in brit and you will surely find someone that will give u 20k

Provo Archer is the 1st I would make
100 Arch
100 Provo
100 music
100 healing
100 Anatomy
100 Tactics
100 Mage

Then for PVP a Scribe Mage
100 inscript, mage, resist, eval, up to you if u want to do stun or heal mage so add the final 3 accordingly

PVP is real good at certain times, it all depends what times you play UO

EQMS is by far the largest active guild and always down for PVP

I strongly disagree with the guy who said Factions are worthless and not active EQMS is in MINAX Faction so everyone loses their mind over it, but especially lately there is a huge presence of Shadowlords and COM & TB around and most times they group up just to fight EQMS. SO I would say it is much more balanced than most think from the outside...

As soon as you get going you will feel like you never really left. And if you just dont mind asking many people will help you get going

Best server ever IMHO, and if you miss or love UO I would say this is definitely the place to play/start or restart lol
