Question about Lumber Jacking

I've just started pulling up Oak and almost ready for Ash. My questions are, at what level does it make sense to start marking the new logs on my map and is there a way to have either the log names appear colored in the scrolling text (lower left corner) or have my character "announce" Oak or Ash when they pull some up? Sometimes the text scrolls fast and I'll not catch what I've just harvested before it scrolls off screen.

*Edit: I think I have the "announcement" part figured out, I had to have the entire system message typed into Razor and wasn't able to use a "wild card" (%). I've made him say "Oak" when getting Oak logs. When I can pull more then Oak I'll see if adding Ask works as well in the same macro.

i am sure i got normal wood first, and then a bloodwood from same tree.

but maybe a tree that gave a good colored wood has more chance to always give better wood? a gm can know only i guess

Ok, but where you able to go back to that tree and get bloodwood from it on a consistent bases? I guess better asked, Does recall Lumber Jacking work in UOF?

Each time a tree re spawn wood it has a chance to spawn any type. Ie. No frost wood rune books.
That is a bummer. I spent like 2 hours marking the Oak i pulled up last night on UOAutomap and had planned on marking some rune books later for the higher end logs.

I understand it wont give oak every time, just as when mining you don't always get verite. But you can mark mining spots and return to the verite spot (for example) and know you have a better chance of pulling some up. If I find a bloodwood tree, will that tree have an increased chance of me getting bloodwood the next time it spawns, or is the chance the same as the tree next to it or the one 20 tiles away?

Is the same not true about mining nodes? Would a verite node not also give every color up to and including verite? It has been a really long time since I did mining beyond being able to successfully smelt a stack of iron in one go.

No mining has always been hard coded in, meaning if you find a shadow iron vein it will always be a shadow vein. Back in the day each shard was slightly different but it was constant for that shard. The lumberjack add ins for UOF have modified mechanics. You have to be above GM to get any of the new woods. That is why they made it random to keep the new woods rare. They also added in those nice snakes in the trees to prevent lumberbots (AFK mining / lumber jacking is illegal here)

Ok, so the snakes are UOF specific? Scared the crap out of me (and almost killed me) the first time one popped up. I am now able to kill them, where I used to get them guard whacked. I just capped LJ at 105 yesterday afternoon. Once I sell off my stock, I will be in the market for PS 110, 115, and 120. Might try to take mining that far too if I get a wild hair. I'd try to GM carp, but without the ability to sell en-mass (quickly) the produced items, it is on the back burner for right now.

Is it possible to remove the failure option when harvesting higher level woods.

It is very frustrating to hit a tree and fail to produce anything twice and then get a round of regular wood and never even know what wood type you just missed out on.

This would increase the amount of special wood available but Tbh due to the difficulty in harvesting the special woods the roar l regular wood is a little to abundant.

Wood is random because I didn't want people marking books. It holds the value of the good wood more.
Excellent, thank you for some admin clarification. I had taken what the others were saying as the gospel, but it's nice to hear they were all correct.
