Thinking of ways to shake up pvp and came up with an idea that has potential without ruining the game I think.
Pvp talisman and relics!
WAIT!!!!! Before you light the torches think about this...
What if the code for talisman and Lance's where combined? The pvp talisman only works in players that also have the pvp talisman equiped? This would allow players that wish for some spice to do so and if it ruined the experience you could just unequip the talisman. This would also prevent players who don't want crazy pvp, casuals, or purist to not be effected by this. This could be pure oot in opt out.
You could have 1 pvp talisman any one can get and just add a bunch of relics for players to decide a customized build. Maybe some are random drops maybe some are from factions or order/chaos, gold sinks ect. Pvp arena/games like ctf/ffa could have an option for normal and talasmin versions.
Effects from relics could range from chance on hit to spell reflection back to the caster to stronger spells to bonuses like "after standing still for x second your attacks do x% more damage (again only in pvp and against player who also have the talisman equiped), Mana leach on hit ect. Maybe cursed relics like "you deal x% more damage per hit to a target wearing a pvp talisman but you also receive x% more damage when hit. This relic give you a hue of a paragon." The only limit would be coding time/difficulties? Maybe use some of the old weapon skill abilities here without having to make a shard/location with different rule sets?
I think alot of players would have this on in hopes another player had it equiped which would have a ripple effect making this more than just a novelty. Especially if you could have it equiped with a pvm talisman.
I'll stop here for now before it's a larger wall of text.
