PvP Solution - Battleground?

It seems that PvP here is effected by loot? What, few regs and pots? For as long as ive known and come to understand.......
PvP is a Gentlemen Game which few do not understand. Only true pvpers would understand that its not about the loot bag. We didnt come for that. You have to understand and i know only few who do respect the game knows its for pure action and adrenaline rush as well as to be the best. Your group gets dropped, hurry and get ressed, loot your body and lets do this shit again. Or maybe you killed some reds, sell their head back 10k and let the battle continue. Why sit them out? Only at the highest level of PvPers understand this. Every now and then, or maybe sometimes often, you come across those who are new to the PvP scene who will loot your ass dryer than a camels toe. A few regs or pots, we understand, but respect the game and the game will respect you.
Are you the UO Ghandi?

This is a bad idea. Being disrespected and losing your stuff is frustrating yes, but its also a great feeling to win those fights. I for one don't like the pits. If you want group pvp like this get a 18x18 wall it off and build your own fight pits. Run some events to draw attention and participation. Quit asking the devs to cater to your style and go create it own your own.

This isn't catering to my style... it's an attempt to generate more interest in PvP here. Notice how the largest events with the most participation are staff-run? People come from all over to join in.

They're implementing a similar idea, but FFA. I'm good with that.

Okay so remove the last sentence of my post and it still stands. Start player run pits and enforce the rule set you chose.

Man... this isn't really for me. I'm just throwing out suggestions to improve the participation in PvP. This one happens to combine elements that already exist on this shard (duel pits, organized events).

I would never take the time to do this on my own. UO attracts griefers, and this shard is full of them.

So are you just upset about the griefers? From where I stand it looks like there is more to gain from what I suggest than your suggestions.

The incorporation of events and possibly rolle play would invite participation from people that don't normally participate. It would also be a good training ground for those wishing to learn and work as a means to encourage involvement in existing pvp.

It would also work as a social gathering for like minded people that could lead to formation of pvp guilds. Your suggestion of an instance would just spread pvp out and make it less likely.

Alot of people play here cos you can kill someone take his stuff cut up his clothes and res kill him 5 times. this is what gives pvp here so much meaning. Take wow for example you go in kill loads people finish the BG and dont even remember the peoples names your have fought cos they mean nothing they may aswell be bots.

its the the ability to do such bad stuff or take revenge on people that do bad stuff that keep UO great
i fully agree, my biggest issue with most other mmo's is that you see someone once and thats it, you dont build a relationship like you would scrapping with a group of guys in a dungeon. i play these games to play with other people, if i didnt wanna do that i have a console. and being able to loot your kill is what makes UO what it is.

That would be outstanding. I just see it getting flooded with individuals who would gank spectators and interrupt the fights.

Then again, if it worked, wouldn't it have the same negative effects as my idea? If it took off, and people preferred to do that over factions, wouldn't the same issues still be there?

I don't disagree, but answer this: aren't staff-organized PvP events which prevent looting vastly more popular than factions? There's a reason for that.

Thats part of the game. Since you control the pits you can ban them through and prevent their future participation. Also you control who enters so yiu can let teams in and out as you chose.

It doesn't change world pvp and isn't an instance. If people are successful they will participate in world pvp.

Also I highly doubt it would impact factions because the pit wouldn't be used unless you're running an event

It just seems like it would become exactly what staff events are now, and players would only jump on PvP chars for those events.

There's a time when players need to be willing to consider options that provide the best gaming experience possible, even if it sacrifices the ability for griefers to grief. The staff has admitted that the PvP here needs to be improved, and Adam has made it his task. When the masses only show up to PvP during staff-run events, and factions are dead otherwise, we need to consider changes.

I see pvp all the time in the world. Pvp as you describe has no risk or reward it is simply a semi-tram/wow like instance.

Encourage it by starting pvp guilds to battle other guilds. If you create the action people will come.

And looting someone's corpse isn't griefing. If you didn't eliminate that and add an instance your idea would be more sound.

Essentially you should enhance current elements not remove them.

I have never said, and wouldn't argue, that looting is griefing.

I'll as you this: did you ever play on Test Center, or during server wars, back in the day?

Yes I played uo pre renaissance and played until until well after ml released. Used test server to test templates all the time. What server did you play?

I played LS for years, then on free shards.

Test Center and server wars back in the day were sits of incredible and intense PvP, probably the best ever. The emphasis wasn't on loot, or punkte, or titles, but fighting. Period. And it was beautiful. It's why all sorts of players flock to the staff-run events here: to some, the sheer fun of field fighting is diluted by getting ganked, dry-looted, res killed and insulted. They'd rather make money PvMing.

That's not me, though. I don't throw pots, and rarely carry any. I'm used to the old style of UO, and hate how dependent players are on pots. I'd rather cure poison on my own. Sure, I'm at a disadvantage, so I rarely wear armor. When I die, I lose 20ish of each. I don't care at all.

There's just a lack of quality fighting here. A gate opens up, buddies pop through, gank, then leave. Everyone's concerned about titles and punkte. It's a shame.

We wouldn't of met then. I played chessy and Catskills with some Atlantic. I don't disagree that we could use more pvp. Just disagree with your suggestions.

People just need to pick an area/gate as that always seems to be preferred and start pvping around it. As more people participate it will naturally grow.
