Still waiting for my 110 Provo PS...can't find it anywhere on this shard! Checked every single vendor I could.

I This means you can run into a room, hide, pull bars, click provo [wait 10 secs], then provo your first mobs and since you waited 10 secs while in hiding, provo is already ready to go again and you can use it a 2nd time instantly. So...
.

SHOOT! Why didn't know this before!!! I was once provo-ing a Lich Lord Paragon + a ancient liche paragon + Rotten corpse paragon all at the same time, and I died like 20 times, because i was waiting for the provo to restart.

Seems so simple, didn't ever think of it lol. Thanks for the tip.

I have magery no eval, blood eles and cultists are my bread and butter, poision field and ev makes quick work.keep a darmon handy and add pyros to mix.

1XX Provo
Gm Music
Gm Archery
Gm Tacts
80 anat
80 healing
70 magery
70 resist

100/45/80

Works for me.

Magery largely used for emergency heal/cures and utility (gate from a scroll is nice)

Resist works on a linear incremental scale ie. Non-Gm resist is a viable option.

Carrying pots make you harder to kill in a PvM & PvP scenarios. They're pricey but allow you to survive where you wouldn't have otherwise. Popping an agility pot to speed up the bandage timer means life and death many times.

I have a hider/provo/dexxor(no resist) that does very well at static spawns.. because you get a feel the spawns you are going to farm. So you know to expect 2 Toxic Eles or Drags.. etc. Either way will work; but, I would advocate, as Asics has said, for magery on your Archer for survivability at something like a champ spawn or portal. These kinds of spawns are where your character will really shine.

So yesterday I went around some spots with the bigger monsters (dragon in destard, balrons in hythloth, Lich Lords etc) and it was an absolute massacre. Bandages are too slow and having no spell resist it a *****. PKs weren't a problem because of my quick recall macro and hiding, but I died A LOT of times from fire breath + FS combo from dragons, or even two liches/skeletal mages just casting at me. Healing is slow, so if foes are casting I should run away and heal, but running away breaks my provo, so when I get back i'm still fucked because I have to provo all over.
This wouldn't be a problem if there were monsters just in couples, but wherever I go it's always at least 4-5 mobs and it's impossbile to provoke them all without running away to heal because of skill delay.

I'm seriously thinking of completely overhauling my character and going with standard 5x mage + music and provo.

I played quite a few years back in the day on Europa, but It was mostly pvp mages and a mage with gm taming to farm. Never had a bard before, and never had a melee character. Gotta say that farming with a tamer was (and probably still is) MUCH easier and much more effective.

I think that with a pure mage + music/provo i'll have more chances because:

- healing is much faster with mini+greater heal
- magic resist
- summoned EVs or Demons to distract the lesser spawn while I get in and provo the bigger guys.
- overall more versatile

The only thing i'm probably gonna miss a lot is gm hiding so i'm thinking that maybe I could drop one of the 5 mage skills
(magery, medit, eval, resist, wrestle) and keep hiding?

Any ideas? Should I go for it? Or should i stick with my provo dexer and someone can tell me a few spots to make at least DECENT gold (like 20-25k hour) without magic casting creatures?

big monster will insta dispell your vortex\demons, and slyaer bows hit really hard, also good in champ spawn, but is a pretty good template too

provo archer can do 50-80k hour,, tamer a little bit more, if you make only 20-25k , just go liches with a dexxer with silver weap!

I see you're also from italy. I'm from Milan. Maybe we could meet in game sometimes and you can show me some tricks. As I said, never played a bard before and haven't played UO since late 2000.

Well the idea is you shouldn't EVER get hit. Keep this in mind. It is absolutely key. If you get hit even once, you did something wrong and you should flee, re-approach, and re-provo. I mainly farm dragons in destard and I never get hit.

You have to be fast with the provo. You have to "peek" into an area and see where the mobs are, keep peeking in and ducking out, dragging bars as you go, and if mobs are grouped together then you have to pull them away. You should ONLY be approaching 2 at a time, which you can provo. Your tactic should be to provo, then hide and wait for another mob to wander in. Then break hiding to provo him.

The thing is after you get a good provo going, there is next-level provo game which you need to learn too. This is balancing mobs so YOU plan when the die, and are ready to provo them onto something else. I tend to pick a strong mob as a "tank" (paragon, greater dragon, etc) and provo weaker mobs onto him. Once a mob is about to die, maybe around 5% health, always provo the stronger mob onto someone else and finish the weak one off yourself (while the weaker mob still attacks the strong one, of course). In general you always want to be the one finishing off the mobs unless you specifically deem it safe to let the mobs finish off each other.

Usually in Destard I play around with young drags and wyverns, always provo'ing them onto a dragon. If I see a greater dragon, I will provo normal dragons onto him (and skip young drags/wyverns, or use them as fodder). If I see a paragon, they become target #1 and everything else gets provo'd onto him. Typically a paragon dragon of any kind will take out 5-10 other mobs before it dies. In Destard, not only do you get gold but you can skin each dragon for dragon scales and leather hides (keep skinning knife & scissors handy).

I always run with newbie bow, newbie scissors, newbie dagger to do all my work in Destard (use dagger/skinning knife to cut corpse, scissors to cut raw leather once it's in your pack). Make a new char with archery and healing and you'll get all three items. If you die, you should only be losing arrows and bandages (and run light, say maybe 100 arrows and 30 bandages). Also have a recall point in a safe zone and never farm too far away from there. That way if you die, you can be back in action in less than 2mins and can reclaim your entire corpse loot. You will have to bring an instrument to provo the mobs that killed you, but that's it. Always loot your corpse while hidden. Also, know where the closest healer is beforehand so you can res fast.

If you want to farm balrons and lich lords, maybe you should try a provo mage. I've had good results doing all of the tactics above using magery/med/eval/resist/provo/music/hiding. I always use e-bolt for general damage, and lightning for quicker/smaller damage when finishing off mobs. Summons seem great but in my experience they just get dispelled and are a waste of mana, or the mob is immune to EV's poison, or whatever. You shouldn't need wrestling, cause again you should NEVER be getting hit. It is NOT OKAY to get hit, even once, remember that. The provo mage is more versatile, I simply prefer the archer cause you never lose regs and dying is practically cost-less.

I've tried all the builds you can think of provo. The hardest part is just sticking to one build and keeping it. I personally enjoy the dexxer route using Macing weapons for the added damage bonus and mixed with magery/medi, makes for a quick killing machine. I run into a lot of archers out there and still get questions as to what my build is because I knock their mobs out before they even get 2 shots fired and 2 misses lol.

Hiding is a good skill to start with provoking because it helps you practice on how it all fits in. However, magery is my personal favorite because I can stock up 30 regs each farming run. I usually rack up enough gold to be full and recall back home to stock up again. Poison is nothing since my mana reserve is enough to heal/cure or gate. Combined with a one handed macing weapon, I'll carry at least 10 of each pot and chug down for emergencies. I rarely have to switch off my weapon unless I must cast a spell or switch to a beastly Warhammer. I've managed to lvl up all my characters this way to achieve my tamer when I really need it. Tamers are amazing for portals, Acient wyrms and the shadow balrons so you will never see me in those areas. Just the simple mobs that drop SS, Statues and Paaragons are what I go for.

Can't believe we still have provo-archer questions when all you really need to do is try a build. You really can't go wrong, just as long as you have PROVO...Hell, make a provo-miner-cooking-tailor fiend and make clothing or weapons on the fly. It does not matter lol.

My only question is, how do you divide you int/dex if you go down the magery route? Whats the balance between losing your attack speed (dex) to something defensive, that could save your life (Mana for heal/recalls etc)

Nanashi

Grandmaster
If you compare the swing speeds of a bow at lets say 30 dex to a 90+ is very slight. Most mage versions of a provo/archer rarely go past 60 dex so getting used to shooting every 2-3 seconds shouldn't feel different. When your using a macing/fencing/sword, the swing speed is only 1 second delay but hits quite OFTEN then that of a bow. Fencing is outrageously quick but lower damage. So losing out on some dex is just fine as long as you can have enough mana for other purposes. You don't need to have the fastest swing speed in order to win the game or any mob, just need patients and planning. My dex build is currently 100/65/75 only because at 100 str you get the additonal damage bonus, no point in passing this out. Lich's literally blow up when I hit em and deamons are only 2-3 hit kills at that swing speed and strength. A whopping 75 mana pool is nearly enough to be a pure mage at this point so casting heals and cures is laughable. You can even heal other party members and gating out when an emergency and *Bad* shows up with a bunch of reds. So I'm constantly blessed, eating, magic reflected before I even step outside. Plus the dex armor set has changed a lot so wearing only leather armor is, well still my main choice versus a barbed studded suit. The only mobs I would be concerned about fighting with face to face are Fire Elementals, Scorching Gargoyles, Ice Fiends, Pyroclastic Elementals and pretty much anything that can AOE damage when near 1-2 tile range.

Nanashi what is your build? A provo macer? Mind listing your other skills? I thought maces only damaged armor durability, not have a damage bonus in and of themselves. Just asking.

Also, minimum mana needed if all you want is gheal/cure/bless is like 35-40. That's using bandages primary to heal, and saving gheal spells for emergencies. If you like to use heal spells more often give yourself some more mana.

100 macing
100 tactics
110 provo
100 music
100 anatomy
100 magery
100 mediation

100/65/75

While you provo, your mana pool will regenerate quickly. It's a fun build especially since my PvP macer is nearly the same build except with out provocation and stats are altered for more mana and magic resist is gm. I am not a big fan of healing unless I make a lumberjack or fencer. But if you really wanted to go crazy try this

100 macing
100 tactics
100 provo
100 music
80 anatomy
80 healing
80 resist
60 magery

100/90/35 or 90/90/45

The little bit of magery goes a long way when you need a quick cure and healing doesn't cut it. Plus you won't have to worry about recalling with only scrolls.

As far as your question about the damage bonus, I can't seem to find an accurate information about it but when I use a silver war mace compared to a katana or regular spear/Kryss (swords/fencing) I can reach up to 120+ damage and an average 70-90. That is all done without the help of lumberjack which I don't think most players use for pvm but primarily pvp. When using those other classes I seem to hit an average of 60-90 damage max and magical properties included. Bows do sometimes hit for that much but not as often.

mace is just subotimal..cause

archery --> you can hit poisoin\acid elemental \silver serpents \ boss \greater dragon \ ancient wyrm, succubus..without be oneshotted or something like that, and you can hit and run out of screen ..

sword--> faster damage with katanas slayer.. if you talk me about pvp is another wordl, but we use Slayers weapons..so we need to use..faster one...

Ya all those mobs I just don't bother, I can net more cash doing easier mobs as well as skill scrolls, taming scrolls etc without having to work hard if anything at all. Why put so much effort trying to kill those mobs when the least troublesome titans/ancient lichs/deamons drop the same loot table? Kahldun? Super easy , can drop mobs much quicker in there since most mobs dont have slayer attributes tied to them besides them lich's. Try going in there and macer vs bower and see who gets out the fastest with the most loot on that giant beetle before an archer even gets past the first waves wisps and cultists.

Faster isn't always the best. I prefer high damage boost. So if I can kill one mob two swings faster by multiple 100+ damage. I'll take it. Try fighting a macer in the ring with an aggy weapon vs your aggy swords and see who comes out cryin. :)

In the end my friend it is all PERSONAL PREFERENCE. Some people love big chicks, some don't. ..easy as that. I have nothing against bows or your opinion about farming those mobs but purely suggesting macing is "subotimal" isn't fair credit or criticism. Well then lets just take out macing entirely from the shard? Lol "shake my head". But go ahead and hold your head up high because your build is the utmost, greatest, supurb of them all Asics. :)

i dont understand why this sarcams.. i didnt said that my build is the best, for different mobs, you can try diff build, im just saying that for farming, macefight is SLOWER then sword or fencing for example, and using slayers... on pvp mace is really ubernice..but on pvm..i think its not the best skill, then if you say: i dont care about go slower , i like to keep macefighting over

-faster sword
-range bows

you can of course..but dont be sick.. ;) cause i was just suggesting you..if you prefer another build, you are free to play all the build you like..but is Objective that if you hit with a slayer bow, you have some "benefits" or with slayer katanas instead warhammers..then if you like hammers! lets go macefight!...

also my build its not 7x gm..but i know the limits of my build..im not going mad cause someone say them to me ;)

take it easy
