Possible solution: Instead of stat-loss

@Shane create a very expensive dono item that gives a talisman giving the owner a "protection" status like young for 30 days....
maybe 25k dono.....this will allow those average joe's the safety they desire....create(judging by the amount of complaints you've received a lot of money for the server)....so that it is not abused, if they take a count...the talisman decays...Make it have all the same restrictions as "young status" does in regards to idoc's etc

All this talk of tears regarding murders, one should step into the boots of a thief who can not hand out counts now THAT would be entertaining... Alas, we still soldier on, with our guard-wacks, relentless detectives, trapped boxes, resurrection Dejavu and the like..

Sometimes I wonder, why not just trammelilize the shard for a week and see how the people who moan a lot get on with their risk free environment, the same repetitiveness that chopped the head off Ultima Online in the first place, attempting to role-play with the Orcs with actions like : <- used to emote : Wacks Smelly Orc in the head with a broken stick : Uses shield to bash Orcs brains in : Sprays Dirty Orc with Parfume De Le Mongbat... *Do not judge for my pathetic attempt at French **Even if it is French***

Man, just imagine that, us thieves would also need pretend we have stolen some bandages off someone and hope they will role-play a chase...

I totally agree, trammel is why I quit all those years ago....and this servers nostalgic gameplay with some cool new content.....is awesome....but apparently not for all......if over 10,000 people have quit playing due to pks......and I don't want to see Perma-stat loss......so I offered up this suggestion as and alternative....the experienced players wont need it...the new players can pay to play and get good enough to fly the coup and establish some wealth to overcome any deaths...and the server gains some $$$$$$

People did not quit because of PK's, some did maybe, but not the exodus which was witnessed after trammel was born. The reason I believe was because, well, there was nothing left to do when everything is safe. No matter how much someone can get pissed off because they get PK'd, they would instantly regret being completely safe when there is no longer that risk vs reward factor. On the other hand, with an overdose of PK's can also bring issues to the table. This is why stat-loss has its benefits but also its disadvantages. Your idea has benefits for sure and would certainly bring a financial gain for the server, the issue is it would not seem so expensive in terms of tamers who can easily acquire the funds *even with large risk* to replace when necessary.

Maybe, just throwing this out there, add a limit to how many people can be murdered in a given instance. What I mean by this, set a limit on innocents being murdered in dungeons, when the limit is exceeded then the murderer will be able to enter dungeons but will face something unexpected, this would apply for 1-2 hours or something like that. Counts achieved would also apply in a party, so if a large party murders X amount of people, the counts would be distributed across the entire party. If murderers who have exceeded that limit try to enter the dungeon again, a special NPC such as the ones in khaldun would come along and create havoc with the murderer/murderers in question. This would still allow murderers in dungeons, but they would face a foe which runs the same speed as a player, does very damaging hits and can clip through monsters and other spawn and also teleport *with a delay*. After a few hours, it would vanish back into the abyss and reappear only when someone has exceeded the amount of counts. The NPC would only target players who have exceeded the amount murders in a given time frame.

To be fair, stat-loss would be reduced to compensate for the many deaths that would very likely happen.

I know, its a very shite idea, but keeping everyone happy is REALLY hard it seems.

Sorry you misunderstood...Shane had said on another thread that something like 15000 people had joined the New Players Guild...and that we have a current active base of 1000.....He said the overwhelming complaint was pk's...so I was estimating 10000...I agree with everything you said about trammel.....I was bored...I came back briefly when they introduced Paladins and Paragons....and by then everything was blessed and insured lol which was crazy.....quit again a couple months later.
