Platinum and Paragon Chests

Yesterday I got a paragon chest from an Ettin. It was locked so I used my unlock spell to open it. Inside was a T Map and platinum. Some questions I have are can all paragon chest be open with unlock spell or do need lock picking? If you do need lock picking how high? Wandering that to complete my skills. Currently 100 mage , EI 100 , 100 Med , 93 resist ( Going 100) , 100 Provo (Going 120) and 100 Music. I want to bring my Med to 80 and GM LP or Hiding. Last question is what is platinum for? Is used as money in the game to buy things from player vendors?

plat has its own vendor nearby britain bank. and yeah you will need lockpicking to open higher level chests. it's valuable to have if you're going to be hunting down para chests or fishing them up, t maps etc

The monsters in game are all catalogued in a sort of difficulty system, the higher the difficulty level of the monster, the harder it is to open and the more valuable the loot. An Ettin is considered a class 1 spawn, or the easiest to kill basically, so when a paragon chest drops it will contain a level 2 treasure map ( the treasure map will always be one level higher than the original form of the monster, a Titan being a level 5 monster will have a level 6 map in its paragon chest etc.) and 1 stack of platinum ( stacks of platinum coincide with the level of the original form of monster I.e non paragon Titan is a level 5 monster so the chest will have 5 stacks of platinum) and regs and weps and junk. The higher the level paragon chest the harder it is to open, the hardest being level 5 monster paragon chests which require GM lock picking and that's a serious ***** to GM

The last Titan paragon I took down only had 60 plat in the chest same as an Ettin. It did have about 2000 gold and high level map. Was this a fluke or do all paragon chests only have 60 plat? Seems no matter what kind of paragon chest I get it is the same amount of platinum.

Unless they recently changed something it used to be 1000 gold 5 stacks of play and a ingeniously (level 6) drawn map. Plus regs and armor gems and scrolls. Like I said, unless they changed something recently that's what you should get
