Notoriety system changes.

On a players very first murder, they should be given a message that explains that they won't be able to recall when they are attacked for as long as they still have a murder count.

This message should also explain how they can check to see if their murder count wears off, ''i must consider my sins'', and approximately how long it will be before it wears off.

Maybe add in a little warning about how dangerous it is to go into a dungeon during that time as well.

Especially the message about not recalling. Really helps show players, who might not always be on the forums, this fact so they don't wonder why their recalls don't work and rush to the forums to complain it's a bug.

What "new" player is gonna be murdering innocent players?

I think he means newer to the server. They might not see all the rules in place so this would be a way to let them know, hey you killed someone, you can't recall now as long as you have counts.

The actual message given when denied the recall has already been updated a month ago to be more descriptive. This was a previously idea of @wreckognize.

aye. still I think we can raise the bar a bit higher, UOF style. I'd like to see the new message be obnoxiously large and right in the middle of the screen. something that you can't close but closes itself after a few minutes.

On one hand it will ENSURE every single player who ever does a murder will know exactly what they've gotten themselves into, before it's too late. and on the other hand, they will think that the most ridiculous pop-up message is going to happen every time they murder, so they will probably never blue PK again lawl.

Would it go away then once turning red? Because at that point they'd understand what they've gotten into haha. Or do you mean this should only be for the first time you kill another player?

What other UOF specific rule messages do you want to pop up -- when you go red a warning on stat loss? A popup telling you what to do with fafnir crystals? If you join factions, youre notified about the housing changes for flagged factioners?

Sad to see you still harping on this rule change which has drastically curbed blue PKing

Spoken like a true baddie, who couldn't possibly hope to distract a recall even with 12 players in his group and constantly rolls the newbie dungeons, but still doesn't have a clue where the duelpits are.

By the way, what the fuck is a fafnir crystal?

Only the first time a character gets a murder count. Just a little warning about the custom PvP mechanics here that aren't from UO:R. Would help a ton for new and returning players.

Statloss and factions info doesn't need to come in this manner, because in both those cases the players are willing and know that there are going to be some form of restrictions regardless of what they are here.

There's not supposed to be any penalty for killing another player past turning grey and being attackable by anyone for a short time, until you do it 5 times, in every version of UO except one other one which is now dead for lack of new players. IMO it died because of two reasons; not new player friendly and not enough population score on uogateway type sites.

You see, the Blue PKing system we had was already good if you consider that more people were doing it, and then needing to burn off those counts, which adds to player count in the off-hours. We already have a small shortage of euros which I would say is related to the new notoriety rules based on the numbers since the change. Less players are leaving their clients on overnight, so on some sites that include euro shards, our population is not as boosted as it once was.

In reality, the only reason euros would want to play an american shard and sacrifice their ping is because of population. Having those numbers up in the late hours is important. The only reason we even got these noto changes was again because a large number of players were complaining about Blue PKs, and that's just no reason to be changing the game, because the majority of players have no idea what's good for the shard.

So we lost the euro market over this IMO, are we really prepared to take hits in the new player market as well?

Add the gump, it's a great idea.

How do you unwillingly get a murder count

I know your group of lesser PvPers particularily profit off the aspect of people being blindsided by this custom mechanic, so I understand why you are here trolling the idea of making it less cheap in that manner... but nobody said a player can get a murder count unwillingly. However, in terms of how UO works, players who are only getting 1 murder count are not necessarily willing or expecting to be punished past turning grey.

Just shows how bad you are to be against such an simple and well justified change.

and players who go red arent expecting to get stat lossed when they die... you can put 100 warning messages, i dont care -- i just think its funny that youre still harping over this change which has resulted in way less blue PKs.

One or more murder counts makes you a murderer (red). Somehow the logic seems to ring true.

Then only reds will have the stipulation that they cannot recall if attacked. Blues would never have to worry about not being able to recall.

OR

We can stop trolling the suggestions & Ideas forum...

I think that's a bit extreme but I actually wouldn't be opposed to murder counts being lowered to turn red. Like 3 counts or something and then you're red.

can't really go into details but there are quite a few shards you may know know about because they aren't english translated.

And yes, I know several japanese/chinese who left since the decrease in overnight numbers, my guess is that it's related. There were other contributing factors as well, the complete lack of late night events that spanned for the first few months after noto changes, as well as some other changes which also came about due to number of in game pages. So it's hard to say.

I guess the point is, for BPK's there already was a downside for them that was also great for the shard; leaving their accounts on boosted player count, which is hugely important to the new player recruitment process. Aside from all the advertising shane does, I would still guess that the large majority of new playerbase that comes here are checking rating sites first.

All trolling aside, @halygon can you think of any reason why a little, one time non-obtrusive information gump would be bad for UO:F? I can see only good coming from it. IMO making the game user friendly any way we can is the best remedy for new player frustration.

Why do u see the need to troll everyone all the time? Clearly he does not want new players to server getting confused or frustrated with this update. Seems he does care about this server. Maybe U should be teaching your guild members to 1v1 instead of zerg so they die less farming, running, playing ctf, and other events.
