so back in old days this wasnt illegal... but can someone use a shield as a arm and disarm for mages. added armor, so when wearing can disarm when casting after casting and running to equip for the ar to get hit for little less, or does it even help at all?

It will help a little, the same as a dexxer with no parry using a shield. You can still wrestle with a shield, but what exactly are you going to be doing with the shield on a mage? Doesn't seem very helpful, as you can't cast with the shield equipped. Also, you can't meditate with stuff in your hands...honestly if you want to have a mage hold something, make a tank mage or archer/mage. =)
