Newbie Items - obtaining and repairing?

Hello,

I am just starting out and looking around for some basic entry-level items.

I have searched many different vendors and there seems to be no shortage of high priced/high end vanquishing weapons and armor sets. I need something much more affordable.

I'd like to get a couple of silver fencing weapons - do not care what kind (2h/1h) nor do I care if they have any further properties.
I'd also like to get some 2h fencing weapons for fighting mobs other than undead.

I'd like to get a couple sets of armor for my warrior - something better than the set of bone I am using from killing undead.

I think I need an identification wand to identify the occasional magic item that I find, but cannot find any.

Lastly, I need to learn how to repair and how often to repair. Does anyone have any info on this?

Thanks!

Hey Cephlen!

Magic armor/weapons can get real costly real fast, agreed! Starting out I'd say try looking for some GM (exceptoinal) crafted weapons and armor (barbed or iron).

full suits of GM barbed leather armor can go for as low as 1600-2000g. as a fencer, this wont get you to the 'end game' obviously. but it will suffice until you are able to really get a good footing financially. As far as GM weapons go, they should be pretty cheap. Maybe 250-500g.

While you're working on gaining skill, my personal favorite spots to hunt would be either (despise (if you're quick with recalling away from reds), or level 1-2 of cove. You could also hit some of the graveyards throughout the world.

Identification wands are hard to get at the beginning, but they are common drops among mid-high end monsters. There's a shop just North of the Booty Island Ahnk that sells them (don't know the price). but if you ask around town, I'm sure there'll be a few people that will be happy to give these away.

Repairs require either skill in Blacksmithing or tailoring, or purchasing 'Repair Deeds' from vendors. I see these go for about 100g per deed. If you buy repair deeds, i'd suggest just repairing GM crafted armor, or magic armor that gives a defense bonus.

When your armor is in need of repair, a message will pop up over your character saying "your equipment is severely damaged". I usually repair every 2 hours of grinding. Seems to work for me.

Hope I was able to answer all your questions!

Thank you Mango.

I searched many vendors and just happened upon one outside of Minoc that sold some sets of armor for about 1,000-2,000 each along with repair deeds. The armor is a big upgrade for me, and affordable.

I haven't been able to find any weapons or ID wands on the vendors, but some kind people have helped me out in that area - and it has been a huge help.

So far my experiences with UOF have been awesome. The Young system was very helpful (but felt too short), and the community seems really great so far!
