Mining past 100?

I did some brief searches with no results.

What's the benefit of mining past 100?

On a gather character (who won't be smelting) is there any point to put mining past 100? Do you have a higher chance to receive colored ore when mining colored ore nodes?

Higher chance to smelt in one swoop. And at 120 you can mine rda crystals.

Those crystals only come from mining crystals inside RDAs? or...?

Saw from this thread that smelting double proc chance increases past 100 mining:

Also saw a few posts that state that mining past 100 increases chance at colored ore. Wish i could get some clarification on this.
