make parry useful

ahh yes, well the only time I've personally seen spell channeling shields was on Rel Por, which had them block some spell damage and was completely overpowered.

I guess in this case it does seem more balanced. One problem I see here though is that having parry mages makes dexers need to pack better weapons than they already do, which makes it much more expensive to play a dexer while parry mages barely cost a dime especially since chaos/order shields are free.

Parry kicks ass it is useful I can toe to toe a dragon toe to toe an artic ogre lord also. Some things are pvm some are pvp I feel its more pvm as every one is a mage or the dexter are posion blade spears and or pots just my 2 cents

Only issue I have with Parry right now is the decay rate on AR when fighting is absurd. I repaired my invuln heater, fought one dragon and engaged a shadow wyrm and had lost 15 AR already. It's not always this bad, but sometimes it's absurd.

I noticed that too with using a shield. AR starts out high and pretty rapidly declines. It kind of sucks tbh.

My guess is that the durability may be linked to successful parrys (where the damage dealt is turned into 1)
maybe
also I'm pretty sure the decay rate is a reflection of the drop rate of invulnerable shields, which is very high.

@crome

In the case you or anyone cares, I have traced the roach mage history down.

Once upon a time, in a far far away land of Britannia..

It started when the Virtue Guards were introduced (December 1997). These "guards" were players that had the highest fame (Equivalent to today's of Glorious Lord or Lady), who were not murderers. Players that met this requirement could join the Virtue Guards (aka Knights) and fight against other Virtue Guards in the opposing virtue (Either Chaos or Order). Every Virtue guard was identified via the type of shield they wore, either the chaos shield, or the shield of the silver serpent (order). These knights had to wear the shield at all times to denote their status. This included mages. Because of this, the chaos and shield of the silver serpent had an innate spell channeling ability that no other shields had.

Eventually (June 1998), the Virtue Guards were abolished and replaced with a new type of guards called Order and Chaos. This new (at the time) system is what we know today as order and chaos. It was at this point that the shields were no longer required to be worn as the Chaos or Order guild tag was permanently above the heads of the order/chaos members. During this change, the Chaos shield and the shield of the silver serpent lost their ability to be worn while casting spells. An hence the fall of the roach (parry) mage.
