Macing question

What are the bonuses for choosing mace fighting? I know that maces break down the AR of an enemy while you are attacking; does this work for PvM too or only against other players? Any stats/data on how effective this is? Also, is there any kind of direct damage bonus?

Two handed maces have the potential to deliver a crushing blow (same chances as para blow for fence and conc blow for swords)

The crushing blow bypasses the AR check when damage calculated. So, you have the chance to hit a heavily armored opponent for big damage.

At least that's how I always thought it worked.

Macing weapons obliterate armor and stamina of your opponent. PVM wise the only bonus to having mace fighting is the Concussion Blow with 2 handed weapons which lowers your enemies intel by 50% for a period of time and deals extra damage based on their base intel. This also works in PvP...
Concussion blow is swords only - not maces.

Macing for PvM will reduce your opponents stamina. Since mobs do not have real armor, you cannot destroy it, so that is out. The crushing blow does however do big damage in PvM, just like it does in PvP.

Crushing Blow, yes, sorry...I mixed them up....BUT crushing blow can be pretty devastating in pvm considering the extra damage is not capped in PvM

Is that the same as para blow % chance? Trying to decide between macing and fencing for a provo dexxer. Macing special is added damage, plus lowers stamina, whereas fencing just has the stun. But fencing slayers seem to be more common.

Yes, same chance as para blow or concussion blow, or stun for that matter.

Swords for the abundance of slayers and magic weapons.
^^^ this right here^^^

for PVM special moves are not as important. and big damage but slow swing is the opposite of what you want. you want fast hitting weapons in PVM. you will get more DPS with a fast weapon than with a hard hitting slow weapon.

any ways swords has the most available weapons where fencing and macing have very few (and even fewer if you want special moves).

Go farm for a few hours and see which weapons drop the most. Been playing for over a year and probably have farmed less than three vanquishing war hammers. So if you do decide macing you either should have a hefty stock already or a treasure hunter to supplement him with weapons.

Honestly, I have both a fencer and a macer and prefer the fencing weapons for the amount of pvp weapons that drop, ability to deadly poison, and the rate of swing speed.

I usually just make my own weapons with a bronze runic hammer.

I have made a few nice bloodwood quarter staffs recently but nobody really uses q staffs anymore.

Can you tell me how the woodcraft works do you get a randomised chance of making higher end gear or is it runic kits or depends on the wood?

First bloodwood q staff I made was force. Back in the day I remembered getting my face bashed in numerous times to q staff dexxors. They dont seem as effective here.

Its because you were playing after all damage for weapons was essentially normalized (swing speed vs dmg vs armor).
Publish 16 was a time where extreme imbalance exists and there are really only a couple weapons that should be used for each weapon proficiency.

War hammer vs armored opponent = most damage over time
Q-staff vs unarmored opponent = most damage over time

I would really love it if this sever went to modified damage tables so that ever weapon could be usable.
