Just a thought on UO getting old and outdated..

I dont think that it has to ever get old or die out. The spirit of UO and all its glory of being the earliest MMO can continue on and on... Though I feel that in order to be successful it must be adapted to generation after generation without changing it at the core.
Some of the features that a lot of us here enjoy involve the full loot open world PvP, a subject surrounded by tons of controversy in the forums of lord british's new project!
Heres whats going on with LB's new project though: they will NOT have full loot PvP. Though, there going to have some very interesting PvP mechanics in it, it will never compare with how old school UO ran PvP.
Now, ive often felt that these newer MMO's might make our private UO shards based on the old school UO fall out of existance. But I feel there is plenty of individuals these days, young and old, who are all for the old school UO.
The main thing I think needs to be done to keep the spirit of "old school UO" alive is to keep the game the same, but update the style and graphics to the younger generations. But keep the old 2d clients for us "old timers" in our late 20's to early 40's. Im thinking most younger individuals in the 12-18 years of age are probably a bit turned off by the old school graphics. Maybe if slowly overtime more screenshots for this site are done in a 3d client that would be more appealing to the younger individuals who probably werent even alive when UO first came out, we could increase the population on this server..
Im not sure where I saw this at, but I remember seeing a program you can download that completely changes the graphics in UO to be more up to date. Its not the crummy 3D graphics that were released in UO third dawn, it looked real nice, and really seemed to fit a modern adaptation of old school UO. I remember seeing it on some german website, looked real nice though its not for me because im too "old" to play UO this way, when I play UO i want to see it the way I saw it when I was 12. But if we are going to keep this old school UO alive and bring in new players to it in the year... 2025 it might be a good idea to update it in some way to attract people in the 18-25 age group who dont EVER play games in 2D. I always hear my dad talking smack about the newer movies and how they are all horrible, that ever since newer technology and special effects came along it ruined creativity. I think that this is more just him growing up in a totally different time where movies were usually in black and white, and silent movies were still in style. (yea my dad is old enough to be my grandfather, I was born when he was quite old).
Instead of being closed-minded old-timers, I think we should cater to the younger MMO crowd that could be coming. We dont have to change the way the game is displayed for US, we can play the 2D clients in the year 2050 if we like! But just imagine if you could keep your game going that long! Us old timers are going to be very low in population by then, we will have to depend on the younger individuals to keep the game alive if it is going to last that long.

Anyways.. I just think that these private servers are a good "alternative" gaming experience for us individuals who prefer not to play a game where there is too much safety. I think there will always be players, young and old, who want to play in an online world where theives and murderers are kept under control by features such as trammel, or selective multiplayer. And in the future all the big hit games will all have tons of regulations on PvP interactions. So, theres no need for UO forever to worry about dieing out because of LB's new project!

Ill fix it:

Uo servers will always exsist even through modern mmos because of its open pvp system, with real danger there will always be people wanting that.

Now my comment. All mmos take 2 roads either uos sandbox do anything world or eqs level theme park linear world.

Sadly all mmos have been following eq except starcwars galaxies which Sony destroyed.

This is why I play uo because of its openness I don't need to be level 40 to wear a hat

It's about advertising and letting others know we exist. People are playing runescape for crying out loud.

Very difficult to do with a limited budget in a MMO world that has big pockets, which is why letting your friends know, or posting on social media is the only way to get new blood onto the shard.

To your point, keeping it fresh and exciting is what the staff are doing with new content, items, events, etc but you need a playerbase growing in order to survive, not necessarily me taking a dirt nap in 3d.

not even close, can you even read? Clearly it says:

''I got a hell of a character variety that can allow for rapid proressing to whatever eveyone wants to do. we'll get rare colored suits back, good pvp, some guild wars where we try to make both sides havea posibility of winning or losing''

It would be nice to have a polished UO but the modern version of UO in my eyes is DayZ. DayZ has open world full loot pvp, bandits, good guys, griefers, crafting just like UO. The standalone version is a bit poo at the moment because its still in pre alpha development but the DayZ mods for Arma 2 are class. In the mods you can build houses/bases, bank in safes that you have to craft and AI an human traders. Ive never seen a more similar game to UO in so many ways and its very popular proving that modern gamers crave open world full loot pvp type games. I too would love to play UO in 10 years time and I do fear the day when no one is left but if servers like UOF arent still around then I have no doubt games like DayZ will carry the spirit of UO on :}
