I think satellite is probably your only option. It's actually not terrible, but a good cable or fios connection would obviously beat it. I would say satellite is better than dsl (except maybe vdsl - however I am assuming you probably have adsl, which does suck ass).

*Edit: On another note, my father has satellite internet because he lives in the boonies too and I have played UO on that connection before. It just felt like a cable internet connection to me. Then again I didn't play in bad weather or any of those other things I hear screws with satellites.

Satellite internet is the worst.

Anyone who would even suggest it is okay for any game, even UO, has no idea what they are talking about.

Yeah, it sucks for web browsing, especially during peak hours. I'd suggest dialup before satellite.

I used to work for an ISP that sold microwave broadband internet access. Think clearwire, only 10000x better.

You essentially get radio equipment that you mount on your house, with an antenna of some kind and you point it at a mountaintop that is a bridge to an internet backbone. You would be surprised how good of a connection you could get eve being upwards of 30 miles away from civilization. It wasn't unheard of for me to hook people up with 10M/10M up/down.

I have no idea where in BFE you live, but there might be a company that provides microwave broadband access. Let me know what area you live in and I might be able to find something.

But this is not cheap.

I know a guy who built some kind of rig where he could connect to like McDonald's wifi from like 5 miles away. Of course the device interfered with a bunch of other wireless communication in the area and eventually the FCC found him and confiscated the equipment...I'm pretty sure he got a nice fine out of it as well.

Ahh so your the one skipping all over the place fucking up lobbies can't wait for dedicated servers. That right there is why I don't wanna move to the boonies gonna have 107meg soon sooooo can't wait. Good luck with ur int tho.. I have had shitty isp I'm the past I definitely feel ur pain keep ya head up big dog
.......on second note if ur getting 4glte not sure if att has that lte but hell I used my phone to Se and was pinging 50 still and was getting up 17meg down and 11 up might be worth to pay for Hotspot as it doesn't eat much data at all.. might wanna take it to a buddy for the lengthy updates tho.. hope any of this helps

You asked for advise and I gave it to you. Your only other option is move out of BFE and move to a place that actually lives in 2014.
i respect the advice you gave me. i gave you a simple counteroffer; basically i'm fucked until I move out.

I still say check out satellite and see what is out there. Satellite tv/internet has come a long way over just the past couple of years.

They can come as long of a way as they want. Light (radio waves) cannot move any faster than they already do.

Until they get some drones up in the air providing a similar service as satellite does, it will never be acceptable for high speed internet except for casually browsing websites.

That is wildly inaccurate. Satellite has incredibly fast download rates, and is far more capable than "casual web browsing". It is not optimal for gaming due to long ping times as the signal must travel through the atmosphere to the satellite and return. However, for data streaming, downloads, and anything that doesn't require very low latency it is a fantastic method.

I used to play UO on a satellite way back and yeah PvP got laggy at times it was very doable.

With everyone having cable etc now I'm sure that's not still the case though.

With so many redirects on 90% of websites people would visit, latency is still a huge problem even though the throughput is okay.

I still don't recommend satellite for anything. Personally or professionally.
