Improving viability of the BARD

I've just had an idea, which i thought i would share.

What if SLAYER instruments had a chance of increasing damage barded monsters do to one another? And this chance to do increased slayer damage can be increased the higher the bards skill level, ie 105, 110, 115, 120 all provide greater increases for this ability.

So what i'm suggesting is say you have 2 liches provoked on another with a silver instrument, at gm there is say a 20% chance that the 'slayer' damage goes off, and with every point above gm it increases by 2%, so 120 would have a further 40%, making a total of 60% chance that 'slayer' damage goes off on the mobs. And this would be 1 hit per chance - as in it could be a melee hit, or a flame strike, or even a magic arrow, but the said damage would do double like a slayer?

Now if a lich was provoked onto an ogre with an undead slaying instrument, then only the lich would deal the slayer damage to the ogre, or vice versa.

Thoughts?

well it just seems difficult to code this. why not just add a talisman for bards? they wouldn't be able to wear the other talis, but if making the barded mobs tuffer was one of the relics, at least it might compare. and also bloody explosion relic could make the mobs have that effect. :)

Hey speaking of bards, is slithermane your or your trammy brothers char?

You know...the one with the Harry Potter name. I'll assume this char belongs to the great white wizard. You know, the racist guy who is worse at playing a mage than omnom. Duck Face also comes to mind....both are better mages than the great white wizard.

Kinda crazy when you think about it.

slithermane is not an Australian. Nor is slithermane a bard. It's a stealth thief i think.

Do you ever get tired of being wrong?

Well, considering I killed him in Shame 5 provoking bloods I'm gonna say yes to bard. Stealth/bard/thief perhaps? Hard to say.

It did seem to make flubenoob pretty upset, maybe it's his alt but I was always under the impression it was one of the terrible Aussies.

bromista isn't even mad about the whale thing. he's just still so mad you guys gave him a hard time in fire dungeon like 2 years ago. proof in the fact that he can't move on is how he can't even change his clothes or playstyle periodically. either way, the forums could do without another brosplosion so please. do try and ignore him like the rest of the server.

This is my bard's latest outfit actually

Still looks better than anything I've ever seen Hanes wearing. Bruh I have a pert-near 20m charcoal outfit...that's a charcoal outfit worth more than you have ever earned legitimately on this server. But alas, I'm sure you'll find some other proof that I can't move on. And you will too.

I feel like being on-topic for a minute. Negative on the suggestion, bro-guy. Slayers improve your chance to provoke and nothing more. Always have, always will. Your slayer can come in the form of a spellbook or weapon.

Don't be a dumbass.

I repeat, your slayer can come in the form of a spellbook or weapon. Provo only requires a maximum of 220 skill points. Don't just expect to sit back with only music and provo on a char and get the benefits of a slayer. Get in there, big guy.

Don't be a dumbass.

Speaking of slayer books. I haven't played much lately. Did we ever get that inscribe quest thing with waves of mobs that was brought up months ago? Staff statues? Those in yet? I'd make a thread but staff seem to like to delete stuff reminding the server of things they said would be done... So many good ideas that @Adam mentioned and then deleted.

On topic I like the idea. Anything that puts more money on a bard and makes their instruments worth a damn is a good thing....for pks...... I mean everyone ;)

No the scribe slayer book thing isn't in yet but I think it will be soon-ish? I did not hear that directly but I know it's being worked on.

It will be nice to see more slayer books out and about. And they're supposed to be unblessed which protects the value of the existing slayer books so that's nice.

I wouldn't mind this. Currently I don't see much benefit to having over GM provo. From what I can tell mobs that can't be provoked at GM aren't provokable at all. I know the chance to fail is higher on Shadow Balrons and similar level mobs but even then it isn't too often.

Funny how the provo PSs are so damned expensive regardless of this fact.

I honestly don't like this idea. I have a provo archer toon. Feel like provo alone shouldn't clean house any faster than it already does. You need either magery or weapon skill to offensively speed things up. Or Taming if you have the time or money to waste on it.

Provo is already extremely powerful and easy skill to train. Once GM you can easily handle higher level mobs already.

Bruh I have a pert-near 20m charcoal outfit...that's a charcoal outfit worth more than you have ever earned legitimately on this server. .

Unfortunately for you, it's a buyers market for your entire charcoal outfit as many of the items no longer have an official price on the server. In other words, you'd be hard pressed to get 2-3 million for your items, unless someone really wanted them that badly compared to what else is currently available. If you don't believe me, try posting an auction for the suit and see what kind of offers you get. I'm sure you're in for quite a surprise.

On topic I think the OP has the right idea, any time you can put more power in the hands of the player without breaking the game is great. But I would like to see it done in a way that makes it ''specialist only'' like a talisman. If they also added a tamer talisman, then you'd have to choose one if you were say a tamer bard, or a dexie bard. And if players ultimately get too powerful by having all these talismans, adjustments can be made to mobs to make them stronger, or better yet, more challenging by adding special moves to the mobs.
