Identify Item - The skill...

An idea for the skill as a passive benefit; give a passive increase to the value of sold items.

Likely the formula would look something like this:

(Item ID / 5 = % increase in value of goods)

I'm basically thinking of appraise from D&D, to be honest. You KNOW the item is worth more because.... well... you ID'd it.

Just don't like useless skills; I think everything should have some kind of value.

.... what's that look for?

Yes. There ought to be an effort to consider how currently useless skills can be modified and modernized. The sooner that useless skills can be made useful in some fashion, the better!

I'm not too certain about GM Item ID'd magics being inherently worth more. Perhaps a Grandmaster Merchant could command a Lord's price for his goods? I would welcome a higher value for your items IF ItemID were a hardcore skill - rather than a straight path to GM, and whereby GM'ing the skill would require you to be the one who identifies the properties of some really high level stuff.

I quite like the thought that Item ID might allow a player to discover an additional attribute to an unidentified item. That the 'substantial' accurate spear you just ID'd with your wand might, with GM skill, turn out to be 'massive' accurate...

I can remember also that you could find out how much an item was worth when using the skill. It would be good to see this again as it caters to the skill.

There's definitely room for improvement. If I could suggest one single thing for Item ID it would be that someone who has GM'd has all items identified for him. Player can simply click (or equip) an item to reveal its properties. No such thing as [unidentified].
