Housing brokers?

Let's say I want to buy a house from someone I don't feel I can trust not to scam me.

1. I've played on other servers where the players are bound by contracts acknowledged on the forums, and the staff will straighten things out if the seller scams the buyer. Is that the case here as well?

2. Are there any GMs or established, reputable players who serve as housing brokers for such transactions?

How does one scam during housing (other than that "I'm lagging... Let me re-transfer house back to you" nonsense. but that seems fairly to avoid if you're careful)? Are there other ways?

I'm not trolling. Just truly want to understand your concerns.

No, if you get scammed out of a house you're SOL.

I never, ever understood why people get scammed out of houses. If you are buying a house, as long as the trade window shows the bright blue deed you're OK. If you're selling, just check the amount of the check(s). Never accept less than 10 checks in a bag. If less than 10 make sure they are individual, unbagged checks.

Brokers would make sense for a house >120mil for obvious item limit reasons but UOF won't have houses for 120mil for years.

Oh I guess I didn't understand how the trade works, not having as of yet purchased a house from another player. The last server I played didn't have a secure trade system in place for house sales (leaving you at the seller's mercy once you've paid) but it sounds like this one does.

Thanks for the info.

Checks are blessed then, yes?

yes checks are blessed. On this server there is a transfer window for house trades.

The only time you would need a broker is if you are trading a house for another house, in which case there really aren't any established brokers here so I would advise against such trades.

By the way it's nice to see you here Li. I remember you from SA. I believe I sold you the house in moonglow beside the telescope :)

Feel free to PM me if you need any help or advice here.

people still scam , there is a bug or was where if an adjacent house was close you could be getting the wrong plot and also people will say hey you just traded me the house without payment, here take it back and the seller thinking he is getting it back is really giving it away

Oh right, I paid a small fortune for it too as I recall, but was still grateful you sold it to me. :)

I'm eyeing the same spot on this server, but the guy there is... well... I better not say anything cuz I'm still hoping.

No, SA banned my accounts for arguing with a GM on the forum.

Nohthing I did in-game, mind you, just for words on the forum.

And I didn't even know it was a GM cuz he didn't identify himself as such, but no matter. I lost all my holdings there.

Good riddance to those stuck-in-a-rut a-holes.

This shard is about 1 billion times better anyway.

It was like that on uoforever. I was under the impression they fixed it on uof??

I'm pretty sure on UO:F you need to be within 1 tile of the house sign to do the transfer, so it's physically impossible to scam with an adjacent house. Unless someone figured out some ridiculous exploit to bypass this?

UOF has customized the house trade system; you need to be two tiles from the house sign now instead of one. There is no worry of the adjacent housing scam here. There really is nothing to worry about when buying a house on UOF unless you're paying with unblessed items.
(The seller can attempt to murder you for the items if they are not blessed)

Gold checks are blessed. Donation coins are blessed also.

To anyone selling for checks, just be careful that you NEVER accept 10 or less checks (technically 9 or less, but just to be safe...) in a bag. The buyer can set the bag of checks to LastTarget, then when the trade is complete they will be able to insta-steal the bag right back. Although blessed items can't be stolen directly, if they're in a container the entire container AND its contents CAN be stolen, including blessed items.

I saw a few people complain about this in-game after getting scammed. Just be careful. Always make sure if you are accepting checks, they are all individually added to the trade window unless there are over 10 checks (over 10 stones in weight cannot be stolen).

Pretty much what these guys said. You have to be right in front of the house sign to initiate or be targeted for a house trade. It's fairly impossible to be traded an adjacent house due to from-sign tile limitations.

If accepting checks.. Seriously, don't accept them in a bag at all, just too risky. Just ask the other player to place them individually in the trade window.

Nothing better than the ol checks in a bag scam.

I have the best memory of someone wanting to do that, but in their rush to scam they failed to realize I was on my thief. Set last target, cancel trade window, gg no re

The only time a broker is useful is if you are trading a house for checks and items. If this is the case, find someone who is reputable and has a lot of positive dealings on the forums to act as a middle man. I like to think that I have established a decent reputation as a fair trader and woulds happily help you if the need ever arose. As other have mentioned, if you are trading straight up house for check then just be double certain that you don't click the trade check box unless the deed and check match watch you were looking for. Good luck in future trades :D.
