I am making a fisherman for MIBs only, do I need Lockpick in for the chests?

No lockpicking needed, but i would suggest having magery to telekinesis the chest from a few tiles away to blow up the trap. Also provocation to get the water elementals off you when pulling up the chest

I think Archery is found on a lot of fisherman so that they can easily kill the mobs automatically.

Definitely more effective than magery with that one. if you are gonna solo id suggest this

Hiding - You can fish hidden if you want, but this isnt needed
Magery (for quick heals/recalls)

Provocation (helps a lot to solo nets)

Finally my favorite fisherman is a meta mage template with spirit speak and two slayer spell books (snake bane and water dis).
I summon a demon first (vivify would be perfect), got back my mana and start fishing the chest. The demon is taking the damage. With even level 1 talisman and a slayer book you will burn thru this elementals in seconds. Spirit speak is a very important need, because you will run out of mana without this skill. If you do nets you can move your boat to meditate, but never forget, the MiBs mobs will stay on board.

I never did an ancient one, can't report about that.
