Haven't played since Halygon locked an informative thread

I was really looking forward to learning more about "the cure" for this zombie event. Unfortunately I was only able to get in game for about an hour before it got shut down. I've been trying to gather information about the cure over the past year and everyone has been very tight lipped.

Someone posted about sharing information for it in General Discussion and Halygon Locked the thread.

This put a seriously bad taste in my mouth about how the staff and PR guys here want to placate to the veterans and keep the rich isolated with their 70mil+ while making it impossible for any casual gamer to enjoy and learn things they might not have time to grind for in game. In the mean time, one of my guild mates got screwed out of 100k by purchasing the cure thinking it'd turn his weapons silver. Mainly because, this is what he was told by the guy who sold it to him. Apparently the staff encourages players to lie about items to fool innocent players into wasting their money on items that have no use. I might as well go beg the dono vendor. Or get traded a regular llama when I was told it was an ethy llama.

Sorry I don't have 72 hours straight to focus on a zombie event.

Let's allow the 3 guys who don't do shit IRL to be the only ones who know anything about this 'cure'.

Great way to help out the young/newer players or the veterans who don't have time to grind and grind all the new content. ESPECIALLY when its only up for 2 fucking days!

UO would be a much more popular game if the veterans would reach out to the young players or the guys who don't have the time to grind and nitpick very specific mechanics. Instead, people hold shit so close to their chest that the people returning to UO get bored of killing ettins and move onto a game with better graphics and player base.

This pissed me off. I was playing 20 hours a week. Now I haven't logged on in 3 days. And I really don't want to.

Locking that thread was BULL shit.

@halygon you just don't want people having an item you have because you want to hold it over their heads and be like "look what I got".

Power trip at it's finest.

I don't.. Think.. That was the point of locking it, dude. Put the weeds down, you're paranoid.

Maybe he wanted to keep it secret so everyone could find it on their own and not have it completely ruined with a walk through?

Then don't read the thread.
He can justify it however he wants.
When I played ff7-ff10 I had the walk through. I didn't read any of them the first time I played each game even though I had it. I waited until I beat the game then I'd replay it with the walk through.
That justification is as stupid as locking the thread. Its the same thing in fact.

The staff said in the zombie post not to tell the steps. Seeming you were busy anyway why not just wait til after the event to ask questions? The order and required items can be easily changed event to event.

The staff are clearly in cahoots with the 1% and force us to somehow play the game without rare clothes and decorated castles. A guild mate got scammed? In UO? Stop the presses!

There's so much here, I don't know where to start :(

Not just "someone"! The thread was started by @bradley- who is a veteran and appears to be a rather wealthy player. Clearly @halygon was not placating to him. The cure is supposed to be hard to find and if the information is shared on a public forum then the people that would profit most are precisely those that you are accusing @halygon of placating to because they tend to have more time to grind.

I'm not overly fond of the fact that scamming takes place but it's a well documented part of this server so people should be vigilant.

Did you or your friend ask on the forums or on IRC for more information about what the cure does? Not about the recipe but about what the cure does? A quick search for "the cure" reveals a thread in which @EnviousGL states "the 2013 cure adds silver effect, 2014 is animated deco only i believe...Lookslike a bubbling green bong": http://uoforum.com/threads/a-few-items-take-a-look.49112/#post-316506

We were told in advance that it would be a short event. For that reason, I simply didn't bother because I knew I couldn't commit the time to find the cure. There was nothing stopping you from forming a group and sharing information in-game or in IRC.

Putting the cure aside, as that is a special case which is not intended to be public information, I think the community here does an outstanding job of sharing information. Have you looked at the people who have created guides and those who respond to forum queries? More often than not, they are the so-called veterans and rich people. The same is true in-game and on IRC.

I'm consistently amazed at how fast some young players progress. One week I'll be giving them a runebook of farming locations and some recall scrolls and the next week they are buying an 18x18 off me! :D

It's a shame that this one incident has affected your entire UOF experience. I don't think you should let it do so. You have posted some great information on the PvM forums and it would be a shame to lose you. Hope you manage to put this behind you and have fun in the game again :)

Young Player Help
Is this real life? It clearly says in the rules that the steps for the cure are not to be publicly shared. Halygon was just doing his job man. I am sorry to see you quit playing over someone just doing what was in the rules.
