GM Scribe and Protection

So what exactly does this combo give you for buffs... is it just increased AR?
Protection allows you to be hit while still casting spells. The disadvantage is that your spells take slightly longer to cast.

Inscription just buffs the length that the protection spell lasts while being hit upon -- Same as it does for reactive armor.

In this case would you use Protection or RA?

Actually protection is supposed to make it so your spells cant be iterrupted. In turn you take more damage. Your spells dont increase in time. Unless it does here in which case they need to mention that change or at least change what the spellbook says it does

Actually it does both -- or is supposed to - decreased physical/magical resistance and slightly increased spell casting. Then again, since NOTHING is documented here by the staff, it's hard to tell for sure, even with testing.

You can be sure of one thing, it allows you to be hit while casting (ie.. not interrupted). That is the primary reason people use it. RA just reduces/absorbs physical damage and reflects a % of that back upon the attacker. The buff effect to use is up to you.

You will see alot of PKs chose to use protection while running dungeons because reflect is just gonna be knocked off by mobs, so they choose to take the damage but not be interrupted in lets say.. a critical heal.

Protection is usually not used vs a dexxor in the pits -- it can be used but you are risking a lot. Using it so is the equivalent of going full offense in the hope you can overpower your opponent in a short time. RA would be the safe/defensive move in the pits vs a dexxor.

Hope that helps ya out a bit.

Yeah this helps a lot......... if this information is accurate? @Adam or @Carl can you confirm this is the way the spell works?

decreased physical/magical resistance and slightly increased spell casting.

I think you're mixing your eras of UO on this part about resistance and casting times. I can't tell any diff when I've tested, but it was far from scientific and controlled ha.

Everything else regarding decreased chance to be disrupted is correct based on my experiences.

Additionally, it feels like scribe not only makes protect last longer, it buffs its ability to protect you from being disrupted. Once again, no hard numbers or anything.

Sure would be nice to have this stuff documented and staff approved.

It is my understanding that cast time does not suffer a delay under protection here.

Also I've been told that your chances for being hit but not being interrupted are 25% witthout scribe and 75% with as per production UO. I cannot confirm this.

Also Arch Protection adds 11AR but basic Protection adds nothing.

The physical and magic resist thing does not exist here obviously.

I think that covers it!

Does arch protection give the interrupt protection too?

No No No... guys please
I write this as I am assuming there is alot of sarcasm rolling around these forums, so please don't take offense but
everyone knows scribe protection also adds 15% to poison resistance, as well as an 80% chance to resist physical damage for the duration. ARCH PROTECTION will do the same thing for a group but the more people it affects, the less damage resistance. if the caster has inscribe then he will get the scribe bonus the the group will not. Pretty sure having protection also increases hit chance by about 5%
