Free ettin lockpicking?!

On multiple occasions I have dropped a paragon chest in front of an ettin. Immediately, the chest vanishes and its contents are dropped to the floor. My theory is that the ettin is *rummaging through the container and taking an item* which in turn destroys the chest. I'm pretty sure that every time the ettin had a magical item on its corpse, suggesting that it did indeed loot the chest.

I have only tried this with low level chests, anyone care to try with a higher level chest? Just be sure to pick up the loot before the PKs show up :D

It should work. The reason is players block/trap monsters with objects like creates, chests, etc so to remedy this it has been made by design that monsters destroy the object. As far as I know this is why and it'd work on anything of the sort regardless of lvl

but sadly you lose the chest, and there are peeps here who will lockpick for free, and are reputable(as far as one can be on here) Then you can sell the chests.

Yeah, any npc, monster, or animal will do it.

Oh the days of training parry with a trapped wisp...

Tested it with a box I locked and no items were missing

That is the end result I would expect. I don't see a reason why it would destroy an item inside. I will test this as well with 30+ items inside. I'll even use a plain tmap and some fodder magics.
