its not about realism, take the hint guys cmon lol
its a game
its a game
I just want an attack to register as such, either landed successfully or attempted and failed. Works this way in other facets of gameplay, would like it to be consistent across the board.
O.K. I guess you are right about the act not being aggressive until the damage lands. Even though you can't take it back once you've made your target. I guess that's really kind of an issue with the way magic reflect has always worked. Why should your spell bounce immediately if there is a delay in damage? But then we're opening a bigger can of worms by trying to change something from before UOF's time. Not to say that we can't do that just because it would go against the way it has always been, we wouldn't be where we are today if we stuck to that mentality ya know?* Just makes it trickier...and I will say less appealing to me because we would be reaching back pretty far to make a change.
Anywho mechanics are actually not consistent across the board (dex, mage, bard, commanding summons) or else we wouldn't be having this discussion. There are absolutely two rulesets we are playing by. But so be it...
* applies not just to reflect, UO, or gaming in general but in every facet of day-to-day life, to be honest
Speak for yourself! I am a big defender of anything old school UO. I think we should all go back to dial up connections with NO 3rd party apps. We should use only the in-game macros (the new devices such as more than two buttons on a mouse that aren't supported are just tough luck) for everything. Double clicking all potions would be great and bring back lots of memories that new players can "enjoy" also. Anything that you think is broke, but "was that way back in the day" should never be fixed as it would ruin the "old school feel" that us long term players know!I don't think anyones trying to defend the current mechanics based on nostalgia anyways.
There are a ton of mechanics that vary from one topic to another. When balancing the game, you have to draw the lines somewhere and since the amount of actual actions available in UO is tremendous, they are not all going to be the same from one ruleset to another. Thief rulesets do not follow the same logic as Mage, melee, or bard rulesets. Melee rulesets do not follow the same logic as Mage, bard, or thief rulesets.O.K. Im not really for this suggestion at all.
BUT what if they just lessened the casting time on reflect? maybe that way people wont always feel that they need to start the fight with reflect on
I didnt read this whole thread but on this last note....I'd like to see reflect cancel out reactive and reactive cancel out reflect! The way it is now is stupid!!
might add some diversity for sure
I haven'teven tested it yet...but does the use dispel field to wipe your MR also work for RA and Protection?
Agreed but at least it's an option if you can get a little breathing room. And allegedly it takes no mana just the time to cast and re-buff.
