Fishing, yay!

So, I gm'ed fishing on my female alt. My question is how I can get cool stuff such as chests?
Do I have to buy a boat and go in the middle of the ocean or it's ok to fish in the pool of my house and it's just about luck?

You need to get a boat and go out a ways from the shore to get able to get messages in a bottle that you use to get chests.

The cheapest place to buy a boat is from Magincia at the docks.

Keep in mind if you fish up those cool things angry monsters spawn and you need an alt or friend with you to kill them.
