Fishing Poles

Is there any reason to use another fishing pole than the noob one you're supplied when you log in? I haven't died or anything yet, but if it's like other noob gear it's blessed to your character so you don't have to worry about losing it and it's not going to wear out.

I have a GM tinker that can make fishing poles, but they do not take a makers mark or say they're exceptional, so I can't think they're any better than the noob one. If I make them in the crafters guild will they be slayer poles?

Just wondering if they're as worthless as they seem?
