With the current system anyone is a PVP explode pot thrower with a macro and/or script. Time to make a change and still be effective in PVP/PVM. For both PVP and PVM it will use your stats and skills for the best effectiveness. It may seem geared to dexers however all is subject to adjustments and/or additions.

Explosion Potions - Works like Flaming Oil
Explode upon Impact and/or Mishandle

No Countdown Timer (You aren't igniting the potion)
Throw/Use: Use Item and target/location
Accuracy (To hit, Miss, or Mishandle) Factors: Strength, Dex, Tactics, Distance from Target , Accuracy for Mages can be factored in by a Magery/Eval Telekinesis type of deal
Mishandle - Potion Explodes in your hands or thrown in different direction than intended Target
Miss - Explodes at location calculated to land (So if you miss by a tile you still do damage)
Hit/Point of Impact Location - Potion Explodes on intended target (Player/Location)

If hands both taken 2h Weapon/Weapon+Shield/Aesthetic Items Don't Count -50% accuracy (But you still can throw)

Damage Radius / Damage
11150885_468823723273608_7953739552942962054_n.jpg

The Target - Full Damage Potion Type + Alchemy Bonus + Accuracy Bonus
1 Tile Around Target - Minus 10% - 50% Damage of Potion Type + Alchemy Bonus + Accuracy Bonus
No/minor Damage Area

Again all is subject to adjustments and/or additions.

Absolutely. I was going to post an idea regarding purple potions; what you suggest is more on-point and realistic for the world.

What I was considering was a small chance to cause another potion to explode upon a bad toss, if the potion exploded and actually resulted in the death of the thrower- meaning the damage would have to come from the actual potion and not other sources of damage (spell or poison damage would not trigger a check against this, for example).

Mind you, this does not suggest that it would happen all the time, just rather one of those things that could possibly happen upon death.

I just cannot get the memories of chain-reacting purple potions out of my head.

I'd be all for the chain-reaction destroying/scattering users items scattering bones and body parts. (Blessed Items of course would be fine)

You literally just suggested the other part of what I was thinking.

Are there more telepaths like you here?

The whole "body exploding" thing seems like it'd be more fitting if the failed toss caused a keg to explode, albeit violently.

This could also check against the number of explosives the user is carrying, (and the strength of them) determining whether the explosion would happen and how much damage (and splash radius) it would have.

One of the issues I've always had with PVP is predictability... always the same stuff. Randomness would do some justice for a more advanced fighting scene.

One issue is it seems that you are ignoring the fact that there are people here that don't use scripts to throw their pots.
So you can't play a alchy mage therefore let's change how pots work cause everyone who does use explo pot are cheating?
