Earning A Living

DarthAussie

Hello,

I have been browsing the forum for a bit, and I have seen very mixed opinions on ways to make a decent living. So far I have mostly heard Thieving and Fishing. I was wondering if someone could please advise me a good build and trade for my character that focuses mostly on making money. I'm willing to grind solo for long durations of time most days (A bit too shy to ask other people's assistance).

I apologize if I havn't been clear enough. Thank you very much in advance.

Make a provo. Provo is cheap, easy, and broken (success rate really high) so it's a go-to for new players trying to earn a buck.

if your looking for a fun way to make money then do the Provo, as Bromista suggested. if your ok with a lot of boring work make a fisher. my Fisher can make more money in an hour then my tamer but it takes a lot of prep work to get to the point I can start making the money.

as far as a thief for making money, Most don't come close to making as much gold as a decent farmer makes in the same time. that said, there is no risk in being a thief so even making money slowly isn't bad, and if you get good and lucky you can make sweet steals that make lots of money.

I have a treasure hunting Provo and I make mad cash.. If I get bored I can always do some dungeon chests in some hairy places.

Fishing requires a lot of investment, but once you're set up, it's smooth sailing (OH THE PUNS). It's a gameplay style, though, and it isn't for everyone. It's (relatively) safe, compared to being rolled in a dungeon every 15-30 minutes during primetime hours, and once you have it down to a science, it's extremely efficient.

Provo char and a tailor.. in fact make 1 provo char and 5 tailors.. just collect mass amounts of bods and fill n sell em.. really easy money doesn't cost much... and use you provo char in dungeons killing monsters.. that works well and is cheap

you just need like 82 tailoring to collect decent bods.. cost is very low :)

Fishing.
All you need is a boat and at least 1 GM Fishing toon. Farm MiBs for a profit, you'll also get low level TMaps in the process. Try hoarding a lot of MiBs and then plan a course to fish them all up efficiently for better results.

THunting.
All you need is 70 Cartography and some Magery for Unlock/Telekinesis (and Lockpicking if you're doing lvl 3+ maps). Having access to a decent Rune Library helps a lot.

Lockpicking.
All you need is 95+ Lockpicking, although Hiding+Stealth and Remove Trap also help. Picking chests in Khaldun gives ~2k gp on average, along with magic items and other garbage.

Escorts.
All you need is a character that can cast Gate. Cycling escorts on 6 toons at ~750gp average translates to a potential of over 50k/hour, with very little risk.

Thief.
If you know what to steal and how to steal it, this can be the most effective money-making template.

Provo PvM.
Arguably the best PvM template in terms of "amount of work required vs risk / reward". Provocation is a great complement to every PvM template mentioned below, and even on Lockpicker/Fisher/THunter templates mentioned above. (That's how broken it is..., every non-PvP template is simply better with Provocation than without.)

Tamer PvM.
More efficient than Provo alone in the long run, but it requires a few weeks of dedicated play to GM. Provo-Tamers are by far the kings of PvE farming.

Dexer PvM.
Very easy to train (2k bandaids to GM Healing, everything else is "free"), but limited in what one can efficiently farm solo, since most high-end mobs will completely rape most dexers. That said, 2 dexers cross-healing are virtually unstoppable.

Mage PvM.
Also very easy to train (~25k gp, without Magic Resist) and a lot more versatile solo than Dexers. Only problem is mobs with Magery will generally auto-Dispel and auto-Cure themselves, limiting what they can efficiently farm.

Scavenging.
Magic items are worth a lot more on this shard than anywhere else I've ever seen. You can pick up "trash" and sell it to vendors for a profit. I never tested it out, but according to my napkin maths, one can make some decent starter money and make Sosaria a greener place.

Begging.
Begging NPCs is one thing, but considering how rich some people are, and how naive some other people are, it's very easy for a new player to beg other players and receive "help" getting started.

Tailoring.
Mostly BoDs, but also leather armor, which is always in demand.

Alchemy.
Kegs of GHeal, GCure and TRefresh are always in demand.

Real Estate.
Self-explanatory, but not really a viable option for a new player getting started and who isn't already rich, although if you get lucky and place a max-storage house, anywhere, you'll easily generate 100% profit, if not double or triple that, depending on location.

Good luck.
