Do Meta Archers Work?

Hey everyone,

I'm still fairly new to this shard, and have yet to complete a talisman questline. I see lots of people on the forums talking about meta dexxers, but never really see a mention of a meta archer. Is getting a talisman on an archer just bad? Or does it not work properly?

Is there any sort of meta archer build that works well?

Thanks a lot, much love!

If you ever get a tali for a archer, make it a zerker tali.

I don't know any meta-archer builds. You could have magery and use summons, or be clever with magic use (such as walls).

You could also 'cheat' the system by keeping your music at 49 (or is it 50? according to the wiki only 'musicianship' counts against a tali. provo, discord and peacemaking are not mentioned). You would have bardic abilities, but still qualify for a tali; according to uo.statistics 50 music and 120 provo works 50% against dragons, opposed to 100% but you would also have a tali. So it's risk verse reward I guess. If you think its worth it to cut your chances with bardic go for it.

Skills:
Music: 50
Provo: 120
Archery: 100
Tactics: 100
Magery: 100
Arms Lore: 100
Healing: 100
Meditation: 50 -or if you want to wear heavy armor- 50 in skill of choice

Stats:
STR: 85
DEX: 95
INT: 50 (for 8th circle Summons)

It's a free form game, I encourage you to try weird shit, but that's my best guess on how a "meta-archer" would look.

I actually started a Talisman Beserker Archer, when talismans just got ingame, her template was archery, tactics, anatomy, healing, resist, hide and stealth.
It was a great way to play, very layed back during champs and all of that , with a auto attack grey macro i could just stand behind the mobs keep shooting arrows and always finish in the top 3 or 5 of the champ score ( alot of times first tbh).
Then i got a phase shift relic and problems started read here ----> http://www.uoforum.com/threads/phas...t-phase-shit-return-to-position-please.79571/

Archery alone on a Talisman guy is not fast enough to lvl, as u have to stand close to the mob to get the most xp, and as a beserk u have to wear no armour, so u have to find a secondary weaponskill.

Anyway, i didnt really bother to lvl the Talisman and got to maybe lvl5 in a few months ( coz i mostly still was in the top 3 score at champs) , then i did not play UOF for 3 months that much, and when i came back to play UOF alot again, i noticed there were much more talisman dexers doing higher scores then me, so i had to change..

I dropped hide and stealth and toke up swords and armslore, and i bought a valorite swamp dragon..
Soon after that i got to lvl6 talisman and thought i might as well go for lvl10 fast, then in less then 2 weeks i got to lvl10 beserk.

What i mean to say is you can have archery in your template, its very nice to have as a beserk.. But especially when your in leveling period of your talisman it is very good to also have Swords and Armslore, and a Swamp-dragon is a musthave if you want to level up quick.
IMO there is no better template for a beserk to have then Archery-Sword-Armslore, you can kill anything very fast, and you have to keep on recalling around, for when u killed the mobs in one place u go to the next, or when Titans/ Deamons are to heavinly farmed by other players you recall to Ogre-Lords or to the Ophidians, that is why u want to have archery !! to kill OgreLords and Ophidian knights, stay close enough to them to get good talisman xp, but not let them hit you.. OgreLords hit very hard and Ophidian Knights and another Ophidian deal out very strong poison..
And have another char rdy to ress your swampy..

List of things to kill.
Titans
Deamons
OgreLords
Ophidians ( though at the ophidians there spawn alot of paragons , wich is always good)

Now im lvl 10 i dropped armslore and got hide again, so now im Archery, Swords, Tactics, Anatomy, Healing, Resist, and Hide.
I might drop Swords to have that nice and easy layed back feeling again of just archery, hide and stealth..

Hide and Stealth is very handy to get back to your corpse in a champ-spawn or a dungeon, so u never have to lose much stuff when u die..

But when u wanna lvl fast, Archery, Swords, Armslore and a Swampy.
Always keep potted, strength and agility pots always up, lots of cure and heal, and u melee Titan Paragons and Deamon paragons with a slayer katana easy..

Thanks, that's really helpful. Appreciate the effort you put in with that reply.

I've already got a warrior with swords, so I think I might modify him and start leveling a talisman. I'll have to make a start on all the treasure maps and MIBs I've got and hopefully get a nice bag full of vanq weapons for the quest. Valorite swamp dragons are damn expensive though, that might have to wait :p

BRILLIANT!

By now i still have swords in my template coz i kinda like it in the first 2 levels of a champ spawn. On a swampy u can attack and run in the first 2 levels of any champ spawn and keep on hitting things with your slayer katana and get a nice huge score.
Then when the 3rd lvl of a Champ-spawn starts ( with more magic casting and bigger mobs) u allready have a huge score and u can settle in the back and choose targets with your bow and not take risks..

Also a bow is handy in leveling when for say u have to lure a mob towards you, coz maybe theres 3 titans together (like in despise) and you dont want to rush in towards 3 Titans with just a katana :)

Also i listed the mobs to kill ( from 1 to 4 ) compared to the loot they give,
Titans give good xp and good chance of ss .
Deamons give good xp and there are alot of spaw points for them.
Ogre lords give great xp but take longer to kill ( use bow).
And Ophidians give both kinda good, loot and xp ( also drop alot of ss, Mariarchs and Zealots ) and u can find alot of paragons, but use a bow on the ones that poison..

Looking for a couple clarifications on archers and zerker tali, so I thought I'd add to this thread.

So I've got my archer a zerker tali and infected wounds relic, and as he mostly kites his mobs, I knew I'd have to get a melee skill to add(looking at fencing) to level the tali. No problem there, looking at it like its a multi step long term build.

My concern now is, not only do I not receive any xp for end range archery, but the relic never procs either.

1) does this mean as with the xp penalty, there is a relic proc penalty for range?
(Over say 200 mobs, I ended with like 211 xp, due I think to shorter shots while running to range. No problem here. But 0 procs over 200 mobs?)

2)does the scaling range penalty effect the tali's base damage bonus as well?
Ie is it simply non beneficial with a bow at full range?

I'm a little confused here, hoping it's more to do with the relic type than the range issue. I never really thought archery was that op that it needed such severe restrictions, would love to know the range penalty rationale.

Cheers!

Yes, there is a penalty with range.

"Provides offensive bonuses in exchange for an armor penalty. The more armor you wear, the less experience you gain for damaging creatures at a rate of 1% per AR. There is also a distance penalty of 20% per tile beyond 1.5 tiles. There are ten levels of the talisman and on average you gain 5% damage per level."

The penalty should only be 20%, but the wiki for this side is in need of some work/updating. But are you also wearing armor? I believe range has a flat penalty, but AR will stack higher and higher the more armor you have.

No armour, pants and a hat only cause he's cool.

Yeah I take the wiki write up as meaning 20% Xp penalty every tile after 1.5 (not sure how the .5 works). I'm more interested in any other penalties that are applied other than the xp one.

I also note the wiki states a 5 range limit for double strike working. Is this accurate?

I have a zerker archer and it is the shit, I can kite and kill any monster in the game easily with a plain old slayer bow

it takes forever to level the thing since it's based on how fast you swing

my template is

GM

anat
arch
arms lore
heal
resist
magery
tactics

I have double strike relic and it is the tits - sometimes I play with heavy xbow just to one shot stuff my talisman is only lvl 3 and I've doublestriked for over 500 dmg easy

having a 2nd melee skill wouldn't be worthing giving up magery to me, if you're going to try and power level your tali then just drop archery altogether, you can always retrain archery after you level your tali with a katana

also not sure about 5 tiles for doublestrike... i think more like 8

meta archer is great.... you won't get highest score (thou u do get up there) @ arch demon but it's far more useful for all other high end pvm stuff that you can't sit next to

i slowly got my talismen to lvl 10 with archery... vampires are really good to kill, get a nice silver heavy xbow and with the wrestling vampires you can sit next to and tank no problem and you just have to kite and kill the mage vampires @ lesser xp gains. i think faster weapons don't register every hit to xp (might be a slight cooldown) so heavy xbow works pretty well + you get max dmg on your relic procs
