Why is everyone dumping their death beetles... has there been a change I'm not aware of?

Nah, just an overabundance of them. Pretty much everyone who can have one does by now. People are only looking for beetles with better stats than their cuurent one, and most likely anyone selling theirs just bonded an upgrade.
Metas are NOT a replacement for beetles. Beetles still make a great disposable pet that is better than a dragon, can poison high level paragons, and won't crush your soul if it dies in a high traffic PK area/champ spawn.

Yes, to the tune of the HP of the critter that killed it. Careful with them paragons 
Enough xp loss and they revert to previous stage, but you'd have to realllllly fuck up for that to happen.

Additionally the very high poison resist on death beetles helps a lot... also they're out of the box lethal... the metas take hours and hours and hours and days and weeks and weeks and days and etc to train up... +3m for meta stone if you want to use relics... meh, quite spendy.

If the pets evolve to the last level can they still revert?Yes, to the tune of the HP of the critter that killed it. Careful with them paragons

I'm not there but I don't see why not, simply because the mechanic that reverts them is probably an across the board thing.
I fucked up and got all excited for zombies and left my meta out of stables and off screen for a few hrs and it reverted from 3rd phase to egg in my pack, despite not killing anything! This was implemented to prevent afk farming and will not change according to Shane.
So I feel like no matter where you are, no matter what stage, this is always a risk.

While I agree there is little harm in being offscreen from a dead pet or one that is not killing anything (as mine wasn't when I was offscreen from it) a summoning ball charge is a small price to pay to protect such a big investment, especially knowing what is at stake.
Shane was right when he said these things are/should be precious to you. Protect your hatchlings!
Power outages/loss of internet are a different story. And RL emergencies might also be an issue but those should be few and far between.

Well in my case it was automated revert based on duration that it was unattended.
It does go through a regression and doesn't go immediately to egg form, but even losing one stage of progress at phase 5 or above would be rather devastating.
I agree with you to an extent, though. I think there's a better compromise for situations that are out of a players hands for the most part.
Maybe a box you can check that auto stables your meta after XX time idle for XX fee? I wonder if that's doable.

A gump just for off-screening? I offscreen my pet all the time to pull more monsters, especially in destard and places like that. Since it doesn't gain exp if you're off screen what's the harm in that? I totally understand no afk-training, but... off-screen seems a bit harsh. And what if you leave it sitting at the bank? It isn't killing things and gaining illegal points... what's the harm there?
