It has been stated in the past that any scamming on forums or irc can result ina ban as these are the areas new players are directed for information. (Not that it stops people from posting wrong information but usually that is just a lack of knowledge on there part).

Shane recently looked into a IRC conversation when someone didn't return donation items that had been lent but never returned. He determined that since they were freely lent no scam occurred. I'm sure he will be looking into this one as well.

Donation items are not allowed to be scammed anywhere so that doesn't really count as a precedent.

That said, i will reach out to Shane & Adam when they get online and see what their official stance is.

lol...never knew this, sounds like a joke to me....

thats why my pm was never answered about when i got scammed for a charcoal ethy llama and the guy xfered me a regular ethy llama.

but seriously though, why would it be allowed knowing it can ruin a player base and run people off?

Mostly because this isn't carebear land (bad analogy I know) and UO is a game full of many things that can get you down if you let it. If you say something like fooling other players to give you things (aka scamming) should be removed/banned, then what happens to the other aspects of the game that are similar (e.g. Stealing, PKing, Looting)? UO players need to learn how to overcome (or avoid) such things as they are a part of the game. As always in UO, it is buyer beware.

I know this isn't the answer that most want to hear but that is pretty much the truth - otherwise you have Trammel (which btw still had scamming in it, just allowed for no retaliation - which is worse to me).

what is really sucks about this situation is this:
I saw chan wanting to buy an egg.

Earlier i saw Crazy legs selling a meta for 1.5.

I told chan about crazy legs.

and this happens? and no GM will step in?

Well i am sick of helping out the uof community if this is the end result of helping someone.

i am glad the 1 person is able to piss off a small community by actions.... BUT THEN AGAIN we can see this happening all over uof and who are the special ones.....

I AM DEEPLY SORRY CHAN, i can start a dragon egg fund for you help you out.

But yet excessive pk'ing that effects the community gets changes on a pvp shard ? How does losing the equivalent of what 8 or 9 k in donation coins not have a negative effect on the community?

After discussion with the player who committed the scam it was agreed that the money would be returned. There was no fuss Crazy Legs was very cordial about it and was open to return the money. No bans were given in game or currently in mIRC. I personally returned the money to CN Chan if you would like to debate about this issue outside of this post in regards to scams you may however, it will need to be in a new thread as this was resolved.
